Puffin on Skomer island, Wales. There were 43,000 on the island this year but the boats for peak season sell out well in advance and probably only a few hundred were left on Sunday when I visited. I'd walked 80% of the circumference before I saw my first ever one up close.

A bit of sibling rivalry between 2/4 peregrine falcon chicks that hatched on the roof of the Merton Civic Centre. I've been following their progress on webcam since the day they were laid (and other broods in previous years) but this was my first sighting in real life. Shame they prefer the shade!

Just after I took this a moorhen did a frantic 10m sprint across the water in pursuit of the grey heron. Subsequent action was obscured by the leaves but the moorhen emerged with a beak full of feathers! A short stand-off, before the heron backed down and went to fish elsewhere. #birds #heron
