Again, I'm not trying to make excuses, I'm trying to get into their head, and I keep coming back to "limited time, policy pivot," because yes, we want action based on things also outside the game. Gold buying enforcement arguably also benefits the harassers. Harassment enforcement does not.

They may be splitting hairs on “enforcing a fair space,” which is an objective move that benefits everyone, vs “enforcing a safe space” which is arguably more important but also subjective, and likely requires policy pivoting that they feel they don’t have time for now. They should fuckin make time.

It sounds like your starlings and the world around them could really benefit from a homebrew D&D setting to fill your mind with stories and images to draw all at once. I’m not an artist, but writers I’ve DMed for have benefitted greatly from taking their protagonists out for a walk in a TTRPG!

Half of my point designates Forever as not “accountably launched.” It’s still beta. Yada yada tight reveal-to-launch promotion schedule and so on. I’m not defending it, I am grasping at straws and all I can come up with is the above. I usually can rationalize if not agree with them. I got nothin’.

Modern WoW is, famously, a cesspool. It’s just also very own-your-time driven. They can’t and shouldn’t be anywhere near as hands off with Forever. I hope they know that. I’m not confident. Bit of a broken record here, but part of building something around community interdependence is curating it.

Like there’s always that possibility with anything WoW that they don’t want to “sanitize away” the base cultural frictions of a factional or just competitive game space. There is a PVP ruleset. They might really be that dumb. It would be so wrong to take that angle, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Serious question for the #Warcraft folks watching Forever’s roach problem: Has there been any non-TOS/SC talk in the promotion of WoWF that has indicated that it will be any kind of safety-minded space? I ask because it *is* possible that it’s just not a priority, and that “conflict” is a feature.

It just occurred to me that #FFXIV, which I sampled at ARR’s launch and had my definitive run from SHB to EW, was the last numerically sequential FF game I played and enjoyed. XV and XVI just could not grab me. IV is my all time favorite. XIV’s “community issues” sadly tainted my parting impression.

I started up the demo for Final Fantasy Resonance and got choked up a lot. I have such a storied and (thanks to #FFXIV) complicated, bittersweet relationship with the Final Fantasy franchise, dating back to its inception. I hope I can eventually enjoy the whole game, as it looks lovely!

The most charitable perspective I've taken on this is that the announcement-to-launch period has a pre-planned roadmap of hype messaging that they don't want to break from, and the earliest they'll say anything about Olypmus is launch. It's that or "they've done the math," which is not good.

Again, I think beta may be hiding behind not being “accountably released,” and the enforcement of gold buying is being categorized as “a commitment to logistical competitive fairness.” They COULD fly that flag to delay purely social (and crucial) curation for launch. It’s slim but I could see it.

#Warcraft forever could perhaps benefit from taking its recent, ambassadorial “find your people” idea and extending it to observe that with great communal organization comes great responsibility, and if one is the inverse of a good, mass influence on the game, concede a need for mass counteraction.

I’d bet there are #Warcraft staff on bluesky aware of “the climate” regarding the roach motel that #WorldOfWarcraft forever feels destined to be, perhaps thinking “come on guys we have a narrow window for hype, please trust us,” and I’m sure some will grant that grace. I can’t fault those who won’t.
