I don't play that many homebrews sadly, but Rynn is a game I'm really looking forward to!

I've added a dialogue editor in our game editor for our #nes game. Previously I typed in all dialogues manually in asm code, but it was very time consuming. Now I can immediately see how dialogues will look in game. Huge time saver! #nesdev #gamedev #indiedev #homebrew

The one button joystick. If the C64 had a common NES-style controller, games would be so much more enjoyable.

Yes of course. That is the only way to do it. I also waste 8 sprites currently at the top to not make the other sprites suddenly disappear. I can probably fix that with an interrupt and use 8 more sprites to make the effect more convincing.

I've been working on the title screen for our game lately just for fun. In order to not look like an ordinary #nes game, the idea here is to simulate two background layers where one layer is scrolling. I think it turned out pretty decent. Still WIP with the logo etc. #nesdev #gamedev #indiedev

Just finished listening to the new #boardsofcanada album I got in the mail today. First time I listened to it and I'm happy to say it did not disappoint. A new masterpiece from BoC!

Yeah, as they are more or less bold and have a big head, I can definitely see the resemblance. The actual design of the character is quite different. Hopefully I can share some hand drawn designs on the future.

I've added piranha like enemies to our #nes game. I think they turned out quite decent for using 2-frame animation. And best of all, they are a variation of our flying bats making it possible to share most of the code. #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

Sun will brighten the plastic for sure. I doubt it will fix anything long term. But the way I see it, the plastic has an end date regardless and I rather have something decent looking until the day it breaks. And when it breaks I can just replace the case if the machine still works.

No peroxide, just outside.

Exactly. Such a hassle with peroxide and you need to be careful, especially with kids around.

It's the time of year to put some of my old computers out in the sun to make them less yellow. Works surprisingly well. In the picture you see my old #c64 I bought as a kid. It has assy 250466 and is still going strong!

After having used the new #c64ultimate for a day, I'm very pleased. It really lives up to its name and makes it fun to try out new games and demos for the #c64. The only thing I miss is a fast way to swap disks without entering a menu for seamless demo watching.

Now loading Turtles! He is very excited! Turns out the price tag is still left on the game box which is fun. I payed €18 for the game back in the day. #c64

My kid using the #c64ultimate for the first time. He was a bit confused to say the least. When I told him I used real cassettes back in the day, he got very intrigued, so the plan for the day is to connect my old datasette and see if we can play a couple of my old games.

Haha, I literally got my breadbin model delivered today, but would have preferred the C64C version. I do have a spare C64C case from Individual Computers, so perhaps I can just swap the cases.

I'm currently working on new enemies in our #nes game. The skeleton enemy you see here is immune to jumps and need to be punched. Currently we have 8 enemies in the game, but I think we need to reach closer to 50 to have enough variation. #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

Here is a screenshot from our editor for our #nes game. We have made a custom editor which increases iteration speeds a lot. It's just a matter of placing stuff, assemble a rom and play! #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

I've started to make proper levels in our #nes game. It's quite fun but also challenging, as we are not doing a conventional platformer and need to invent a good formula for levels. I use greyboxing until I have something fun. #gamedev #nesdev #homebrew #indiedev

Today I've worked on collision in the over world of our #nes game. We use 16x16 tiles so the grid is quite blocky. By adding special tiles that nudge the player it makes the navigation much smoother as you don't get stuck as easily. Works really well! #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

I haven't update in a while, but our next #nes game is progressing nicely. I've been working on the first boss. There's polish left but I'm pretty happy with the base concept as I don't think it feels too static, which is often the case with bosses on the nes. #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

Today one of my kids proudly told his brother, "Daddy showed me a life hack!". You might be curious what the hack is? To button up a pair of jeans. I feel the bar for life hacks has gotten surprisingly low...

I got a new computer today so I could migrate to Windows 11 and oh my God it's been painful. I've had several Windows 11 bugs (with crashes) and getting back to a similar state as with my Windows 10 machines seems impossible. Is it not possible to get Visual Studio 2022 anymore?

Yeah, Monster Hunter has the worst ux ever. I remember trying to play coop a couple of years ago with a coworker and we had a hard time figuring out how. Considering our professions it was quite laughable.

Good choice! I thought a lot about resolution for a SNES like game a few years back and settled on 336x192. For none widescreen I would definitely go with 256x192.

As it's Christmas I've changed the palette to get snow. It's fascinating how much a simple palette change can do. You also see me testing collisions for entities by dropping a coin on punches. Not single frame drop in sight! #nes #nesdev #gamedev #homebrew #indiedev

Just finished watching Terminator with the kids. They liked it a lot so tomorrow we'll move on to Terminator 2. Also, I had no idea the T-800 model is powered by a 6502 like processor. Pretty funny.

Nice video indeed! Interesting thing, testing colours on real hardware with a flat screen is enough for me to realize I need tweaks. There are a lot of colour combos that work fine in an emulator but look awful on real hardware. The end result usually gets better in both setups as well!

I haven't posted an update about our #nes game in a while, but things are progressing nicely. I'm currently working on a shop. Money will play a vital part of the game to get items to access new areas as we plan to add some light RPG elements. #nesdev #indiedev #gamedev #homebrew

It's a great feature. Used it recently to fix a rendering glitch where a bank switch happened mid frame every 10 seconds or so. Without rewind it would have taken so much longer. We are so spoiled with debugging features in Mesen.

Got my Multisystem 2 in the mail today from @heber-limited.bsky.social . I've been looking forward to the Multisystem 2 more than Switch 2, and so far it does not disappoint. I'm quite blown away by the form factor and it looks much better in person than I thought!
