Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I’ve seen your Youtube comment about this issue. I guess we’ve clarified this to the point where the statement “you don’t have to lose type safety” is incorrect. Or am I still missing something? 110
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Typically, yes. It “just” slows us down and breaks the workflow we’re used to with statically typed languages. The IDE won’t be able to answer questions like “where does this parameter come from”, and the code is generally harder to review. 010
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 08/10/2026OK, I get that. In that case, you'd have loss of type safety on the method invocation. The compiler doesn't know about the relationship between the method source and the method. 110
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I’m not sure if I follow. In Kotlin, if we refer to type safety, we typically mean compile-time type safety. JUnit instantiates classes via reflection, and that always implies that you lose type safety on their constructor parameters, with errors popping up at runtime. 110
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 08/10/2026With a single argument, the parameter-providing function could return a list of Int, while the class constructor might expect a String. The code would compile again, yet produce a runtime error. 110
Reposted by Oliver O.Kotlin by JetBrains @kotlinlang.org · 07/10/2026What if Kotlin testing required less boilerplate and more Kotlin? Oliver Okrongli and Bernd Prünster introduce TestBalloon, a new, extensible framework for modern testing patterns on every Kotlin target. Put it to the test: kotl.in/f6aokg 093
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 08/10/2026In that JUnit example, you can experience the missing type safety if you change the order of parameters in the constructor. The code will still compile, but then you'll get a runtime error like this: Failed to convert String "Hamburg" to type double 110
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Thanks for watching! Could you please specify the exact position in the video you're referring to? 110
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I’ll be arriving late, missing the speakers party, unfortunately. Hope to catch up at the venue! 110

Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Yes, I got the exemption, and TestBalloon's new multi-version releases are way below the allotted limits. But still, there is no exeption for "popularity". 😉 000
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 01/10/2026This suggests that it's a popularity percentile: bsky.app/profile/skyd... It also seems to suggest that it's better not to be "too popular". 100
Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Thanks, found it, so not Scarf. Still no idea how to interpret that thing. In my case, it’s also not (yet) populated. 110

Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Horrible. I hope firefighters can hold the line until the situation gets better with changes in atmospheric winds. But seems like it'll take until Tuesday morning for an easterly direction. 010
Reposted by Oliver O.Sebastian Sellmair @sellmair.dev · 17/07/2026Something big might happen to the Kotlin Multiplatform Ecosystem 👀 We were never too happy about how Kotlin publishes and resolves KMP libraries. It takes up significantly more space than it has to, produces a ton of artifacts and Maven modules, and is just... complex! 25114

Oliver O. @olivero2.bsky.social · 21/06/2026The large number of files is caused in part by going the extra mile and backporting everything for every Kotlin version since 2.0.0. But that can (and will) be optimized to unbundle and separately version different parts of the artifact set. 030
