A person I talked with today just had his 6th infection. Cancer treatment wiped out his immune system (and all these infections wouldn't have helped, either). It's so sad....

Yes, I was off Twitter for a few months, but I went back in July, to find that engagement has gone down even further while the insanity is getting worse. So I'm trying this out....

Thank you. It's an odd glitch, though....

Well, that's reassuring. I do prefer a glitch in the app to a glitch in my brain....

Does anyone know if there is spontaneous unfollowing going on on this site? So far, I had (eventually) followed everyone who followed me, but I just found a block of ~20 people among my initial follows that I wasn't following anymore. Maybe I had just missed them, but I don't think so.... 🤷

That's too bad.... There really should be some official information. If NVX really won't be approved till the end of the year, I would take an mRNA now....

Good, though they took their sweet time. Let's hope that Health Canada follows suit soon. I don't want to wait too much longer to get a booster, but I'd much rather get a 3rd Novavax than an mRNA.... I wish we had a date for when they'll meet to decide, so that i can make an informed decision.

Thank you (though I'd say I'm just a medium human). In my experience, the more I learn, the more I realize how much is there that I don't know. Maybe I'm just a bad learner, but at least I'm not too arrogant about what little I do know....

They already laugh nervously when I tell them that, so I don't drive the knife in any deeper (but we generally get pretty smart people in the PhD program). I mostly try to teach them to question themselves at every step (as well as the studies they read, even if published in good journals).

The problem of many people with PhDs is that they think they know more then they do, rather than the reverse. I tell the PhD students in my course that I hope that, by the end, they will feel that they know less than when they started (though I don't write this in the official course outline...).

I found this. I must have read about it on the *other* place ... Apparently, when Novavax was co-administered with the inactivated influenza vaccine, the antibody response to Covid-19 was somewhat reduced www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/clinica...

I can't remember where I saw it but, apparently, the protection against COVID is reduced when it was given together with the flu shot (at least for NVX). However, since I found this information sitting in my brain without me knowing how it got there, don't take my word for it....

People can *get* both that....
010
Olga @olga-basso.bsky.social · 28/09/2023
Yes, Boileau said today that people can both that and the COVID booster at the same time (which one shouldn't do with Novavax, assuming that will be an option).

I know - I really wish we knew when Health Canada would decide, how long till the provinces procure them, etc.... (I'm quite mad at Novavax for applying so late, though. It's almost as if people in their marketing department work for the competitors....)

Olga @olga-basso.bsky.social · 28/09/2023
Man, I really would like to have my 3rd Novavax, but I am afraid this is going to take too long.... Not sure whether to wait or get one of the others. I wish we knew some dates (& the provinces have to procure vaccines, this time)

I think "the plan" has shifted to continuous forced infection.... Look at how almost no health officer recommends masks. Indeed, when asked about them, most react as if they've been threatened with something awful, should they ever recommend them....

They didn't give a number but, back when govt's began bamboozling us with "living with the virus", we were told it meant accepting more death and disease. But "normal" was calling loudly, & most just went along.... Besides, unlike all other infections, children couldn't get or transmit COVID 🙄.

It looks that way, given how hard they're peddling the wash your hands refrain.... too many healthy people perturb the narrative of "lockdowns devastated our immune system & we'll have immunity debt for many generations to come". (We won't, but only because we won't have many generations to come.)

That was the "old" public health, but those principles were so yesterday.... The new public health may not leave much health in the public, but it's agile, modern &, most importantly, lets the rich get rich.... Sorry - I meant - it allows free choice.... /s

Thank you! Just came on here to try it, as I hadn't taken to the fediverse. I'm still also on the "other" place, but I most certainly won't stay if it becomes subscription....

Olga @olga-basso.bsky.social · 21/09/2023
Exactly.... Once we've all had several infections, who'll even notice a little harm?

I am using the web version on my phone. Looks almost exactly like Twitter (unsurprisingly), but it's a bit buggier.

Does that include the whisky, though?

Plese don't encourage them.... They have reliably shown that they can always beat their previous "falling harder" record, even when it seems impossible....

Olga @olga-basso.bsky.social · 21/09/2023
But "we have the tools", right? Plus, we have to endure PHOs telling us that masks are unnecessary at this point & that all will be well if we just stay up to date with our boosters (how, exactly?) & wash our hands (the obvious response to an airborne virus 🙄)

Olga @olga-basso.bsky.social · 21/09/2023
Well, I just found it. I could swear it wasn't there this morning, when I looked for it.... (maybe the site requires one to post something besides replies before showing more options? 🤷)

Olga @olga-basso.bsky.social · 21/09/2023
I looked for that setting, but could not find it. Maybe It's because I'm using the online version? (Same with Twitter - I don't like to have the app on my phone)

Just saw a book with a title that perfectly encapsulates public health C0VID policy: "Reality is what you can get away with" I'm pretty sure that this is now also the official title of the pandemic playbook (assuming one still exists...).

I know.... Our building had a problem, and McGill had started fixing it when they discovered that the problem was a lot bigger & would cost a fortune. So they stopped, & we had scaffolding for years, until we left....

So sad.... I worked for 10 years in a Pine Ave heritage house (1120, which I don't think has been destroyed (yet)). Now, we are at 2001 McGill College, which is certainly more modern, but also soulless (& someone is always protesting nearby, as it's the same bldg as Legault's Montreal office)

Thank you - very much appreciate it. It'll take a while before I can figure out this site.... I found your post by clicking on something in the menu, but it did not appear in my notifications at the bottom. Is this normal? Also, even in Discover, I'm seeing very few posts (several from hours ago).

Thank you! & thank you @driusan.doomscroller.social It feels a bit overwhelming to try & find the people from the *other* site, but it does look like our days there are numbered (& maybe that's a good thing)
