Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Just noticed a Baillon’s Crake was at Saltholme Pools on this date in 1882! Got me thinking how interesting it would be to be able to go back in time armed with modern optics, cameras etc to record what was present all those years ago. 000

Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 26/09/2025@ianfoster1971.bsky.social 2/2 it was on BG at dusk reported as in dunes (the original spot where potentially could roost) but it was so obvious that if not seen today likely gone. It’s low tide now and there is plenty of cliff edge and stony shore to the north which is less disturbed so maybe 🤷♂️ 210
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 26/09/2025@ianfoster1971.bsky.social re the Issy Wheatear Ian it was ranging over 200m south of the original spot about 17:30 last but was feeding on beach with Pied Wags and as it was approaching high tide was a bit mobile with less space for dog walkers. Not too bothered by people but wary of dogs. 1/2 010
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 17/05/2025Appalling Paul There ought to be some discretion applied in relation to individual circumstances but sadly for companies like the it’s more often about profit not people. 110
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 10/04/2025Well @stewchat.bsky.social what a difference a day makes - l see it hit 21c at Boulmer today and was almost as warm here on the Durham coast. My first Swallow today seems tardy compared to other parts of UK but would have been considered early when l started birding in 1970s. Expecting more tomorrow 130
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 25/01/2025Drake American Wigeon still on west side of main lake at Milkhope on Blagdon Estate occasionally in on but mostly tucked away in edge of reeds. #NEbirding #UKbirding 180

Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Hendon Sunderland 12:30-14:00 A very chilly watch but after missing out yesterday through work caught up with 7 Little Auks today. Few ducks moving and up to seven species of wader on beach with 80+ Dunlin moving north slightly offshore somewhat unusual. 060
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 14/11/2024Another autumn check of the bottom lake at Silksworth which looks absolutely spot on for colonisation by Cetti’s. Not yet though, but a first (for me anyway) at the site of Little Egret, and 2 Goosander on the top (main) lake where they are regularly seen. 030
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 24/10/2024Had a run up to sunny Bamburgh today where despite choppy seas the drake White winged Scoter found by Ross Ahmed showed reasonable well at x50 in scope. Bonaparte’s Gull as elusive as ever - no sign. Still couple of pretty late juv Arctic Terns about #NEbirding #UKbirding 050
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 23/10/2024But where the hell does it go in the winter? 020
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 23/10/2024A late report of one at Cannock Chase in Staffs yesterday so not quite as bleak as l thought 🤞 020
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 22/10/2024It seems ridiculous to me that it is FIFTY years to the day that l found my first “rarity” a cracking Great Grey Shrike. In reality they were a scarce winter visitor then but nowadays they are approaching if not already at true rarity status. Quite sad to see not one bird reported anywhere today😞 030
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 27/09/2024Very disappointing seawatch at Hendon today after yesterday’s incessant rain and strong NE it was still strong N blow but very few birds moving and light often poor. 20 Barnacles and a juv Pom in 2 hours says it all #NEbirding 070

Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 13/09/2024Plenty of mud showing at Lambton Pond (Chartershaugh) and a reasonable selection of waders with 5 Blackwit, 4 Green Sands, Greenshank and Ruff (Spotshank and 16 Blackwits first thing per SE). Nothing of note Boldon Flats or SAFC Academy Flash. #NEbirding 0101
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 06/09/2024Lovely close Cory’s at Hendon this afternoon showed very well north up the coast. There’s a cracking photo by @whitburnbirds.bsky.social 080
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 04/09/2024Looking at forecast at end of the week certainly worth looking out for Red-foot arriving on east coast along with other migrants. 060
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 28/08/2024Boldon Flats 3pm ish 11 species of wader incl 2 Curlew Sand single Wood and Common Sand and Greenshank 23 Dunlin 4 LRP and 10 Blackwit with 13 Blackwit and LRP on SAFC Academy Flash #NEbirding 0130
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 28/08/2024Lambton Pond (Chartershaugh) has 6 Green Sands just before 2pm which is my equal personal best of the autumn but somewhat lower than recent years when double figure counts have been regular #NEbirding 1120
Paul Anderson @oldtimebirder59.bsky.social · 28/08/2024DFraser reports Curlew and Wood Sand Greenshank LRP Boldon Flats TMiddleton Greenshank and Green Sand Burdon Flash. Seaton Pond holds just handful of Teal Lapwing and Snipe! #NEbirding 080
