The opposite view from the new bridge , carrying the Trans Pennine Trail over the route of the canal restoration. Showing the excavations for the new lock and then the completed lock, through which the canal now extends 400 yards further towards the next goal of Renishaw

The Canal Trusts trip boat Madeline spotted near Staveley. I am guessing they'd been up to see the latest extension to the Chesterfield Canal #Canal

The Keith Ayling Lock is up and running. Some paving work ongoing this afternoon. The newest lock on the canal network is named after the man who was Chair of the Chesterfield Canal Trust from 1991 to 2009.

Stunning to see water in the newly restored section of the Chesterfield Canal at Staveley. Amazing work by Chesterfield Canal Trust and the contractor O'Briens. 👏🏼

Via a friend of my daughters... we are off to Manchester City's ground again, albeit a different one.. and it may be a non-league ground by then 😉🎵🥳🎉

No Oasis email through so far, so I am guessing none is coming. The consolation prize for being old is I saw them in 1996, for £17.50. Phenomenal they were too #Oasis

Final Heritage Open Day. A trip to see Birley Spa bath house. Embarrassingly my first visit despite it being on my doorstep. Guided tour with Fiona telling us about the site's past, as well as plans for its future #HOD Birley Spa Preservation Trust have volunteer roles available 🧵

The Great Central Railway War Memorial originally stood outside Sheffield Victoria Station to honour railway workers who died in World War I. After the station closed the panels were relocated to the Wicker Arches, before returning to the station site #Sheffield

War memorial at Canada House, (the former Sheffield Gas Company offices), Commercial Street. Unveiling 1927. Sadly, the original memorial is missing or is it just boxed in ? The names are replicated on a plaque at Transco House, Junction of Effingham Street #Sheffield

1/2 My parents generation had the JFK moment. Where everyone could remember where they were when the heard he'd been assassinated. 9/11 has that same level of recognition. I was running a stocktake at Virgin on Fargate. Probably the least accurate ever, such was the shock..

There are literally dozens of amazing open days in Sheffield. Access and tours to buildings that you gaze at every day, but can't go in. I've booked three so far, more to follow. Some new only booking closer to the time. Well worth checking the website . share.google/r6v1DAwSjrwM... #Sheffield 👇

Manor Cinema. Opened 12th December, 1927, with a total capacity of 1700. Closed 14th June 1969. Approaching it's 100th birthday, the good news is it appears to have a new occupant incoming. It appears they've made some repairs to the structure. Another positive are the trees, doing there best 👌

Chesterfield Canal update : Looking back towards Staveley. The new lock currently covered with scaffolding. The route is excavated all the way through to the current 'watered' section. If that's a word. Progress comparison in comments ⬇️

I don't want to be an arse, but the old well 'discovered' under the tram line on Birley Lane... Appears to be shown on the old Ordnance Survey map. 'Pump' would indicate 'a manual or mechanical water pump used to draw groundwater from a well'. #Sheffield

I do not understand what toxic thoughts some people have. Walking along today, I passed lots of families, a lot of South Asian heritage. All out enjoying the beauty of the Peak District. Just below the spot where I took this picture, some has written across a signpost. REMIGRATION NOW 😔😡

I am currently in Toronto. A pilgrimage to see Rush, in their hometown. Today I tracked down where the Moving Pictures album cover was photographed in 1981. Luckily, some fellow fans were recreating part of the scene #Rush #Toronto

Ford wheel from 1925, the pond is dangerously low at the moment. The fish are up on the surface and still disturbing the silt. Angling is suspended. By the way, in the old days if the dam was too low to turn the water wheel, the men would go off to Lincolnshire and work on the harvest. Hard lives

I really do not get this culture of entitlement that's taken over , since Covid. People think it's their right to trespass, camp, park, p1ss and sh1t anywhere they want. Leave their rubbish behind and probably boast on social media what a great time they had 😔

The remains of Sheffield Castle tell a story that’s long been buried. Archaeologists have uncovered what lies beneath Castlegate. Now the city is asking: how can we build something new that remembers what came before? Watch now: bit.ly/46SKyP8 #FestivalOfArchaeology #Castlegate #SheffieldCastle

For decades Sheffield has been full of car parks. Not purpose built, but land cleared of old workshops and housing. With nothing to build, we parked cars instead. Crushed brick, tarmac in time. Now the land is coming back to life 🙌 #Sheffield

The Odyssey is one of two major epics of ancient Greek literature attributed to Homer. However, up until tonight that was the extent of my knowledge on the topic. Therefore, I was like a kid in a sweet shop, watching Christopher Nolans film version. Superb.. in fact epic 🎬

Family history throws up some amazing stories. My Great Grandfather had a cousin Walter Holbem. Born in 1884, he grew up around Heeley , at 16 he was a table knife grinder. But football was to change his life, initially with Heeley Friends. Later Sheffield Wednesday... 🧵
