If any pals are at Aquatifur and bump into a goth twink with pink hair or a fluffy dragon also with pink hair and a telephone on his ass who goes by Dialtone, tell him Pines says “hi”. (Like, in a friendly way…not a “the Don sends his regards” way) Gotta keep the sapling on his toes.

Me, the dissociating neglected domestic service top occasionally muttering a monotone, “You like that don’t you?” while mopping and getting confused looks from the dogs and my family.

If I could forego house cleaning while listening to Behave by Robert Sapolsky on Libby, I would be there in a heartbeat. Sadly, the house needs to be treated like a dirty, dirty house.

The answer, of course, is “no”. The longer answer is, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we all just stopped talking about the United States entirely for a couple months? I bet he’d have a stroke.”

Generic Caution I wish I was confident enough to say Risk of Crushing or Falling Hazard, but I can count on my dick the number of people who have fallen for or crushed on me.

So, is this going to be a catastrophe of colliding planes? Possible but unlikely. It is going to be some of the worse congestion and a disaster of a different sort for airlines and travelers? Almost certainly.

While this flows well with the general response to AI bullshit in our world, it does skirt the reality of what this “tool” is. It won’t replace ATC. It won’t control planes or direct them. It’s being used to predict congestion and adjust schedules and routes to compensate, with staff review.

“Growing strong from adversity is mostly a luxury for those who are better off.” I’ve been listening to Robert M. Sapolsky’s “Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers”. It’s full of great stuff about stress, biology, genetics, brain chemistry and architecture, etc. This line, though, hits hard.

Endlessly funny to me the way that all the people who self-proclaim to be Objectivist heroes read like Rand’s villains.

Done running around and chasing chores for the time being, so it’s time to enjoy some malt. Santa Fe Brewing Company’s Oktoberfest, to be precise.
A glass of amber liquid sits on a kitchen counter beside an aluminum can with blue, white, and orange markings. The can bears the label “Oktoberfest”.

So, yes, I am proud of my old employer, because I have always believed in the mission. The fact that they finally pulled their thumb out of their ass and saw success is amazing. That said, I wouldn't work for them again if that asked nicely and paid me six figures.

What happens when the protections of the Family Medical Leave Act end? Your employer gets to decide whether to keep you on the books or throw you out like a broken chair. Which happened with me? I guess I'm a chair.

This country's medical system is a pile of flaming garbage, so getting in to see a specialist wasn't possible within the 12 weeks that FMLA protections cover. So, FMLA ran out before anyone could see me to even diagnose the problem.

Pines @oldpines.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Instead, the company's answer was to have me on intermittent FMLA and work from home drafting a hazardous chemical contingency plan. I finished that before Christmas of 2024. Then they shrugged and said there wasn't anything else they would let me do. Full-time FMLA started at the beginning of 2025.

Now, I was both the facilities person and the safety officer. There was loads I could do that didn't involve the restricted activities. There were also tons of things I could have helped other teams with that wouldn't have trodden on restrictions. Most of that was refused.

Within a week, I was barely able to walk from the back and neck pain. I got put on lifting, twisting, bending, and carrying restrictions. My boss told me to stay out of work until the restrictions lifted. I ended up going on FMLA.

The ramps that aligned the trailer with the loading dock collapsed and I (driving the man lift) got swung around like I was in a coked-up paint mixer. A slight bounce off the control panel left no visible bruising or injury. Finished loading and went back to crawling on hands and knees with carpet.

We drove to Galveston and back for a family wedding (driving always has exacerbated an old thoracic spine injury of mine). When I got back, already inflamed, I went right into installing peel-and-stick carpet tiles in three rooms. In the middle of this, I had to load a man lift onto a trailer.

It's been more than a year, so I think a cat can have little a acrimony, only as a treat. In October of 2024, I was working as a facilities maintenance tech for a certain airborne baked potato company whose name rhymes with rye.

Close. They have an office and production facility in Moriarty but launch out of a hangar in Roswell nowadays. The vehicles they have been testing and building over the last few years are too big for the Moriarty facility.

Stratospheric platform for telecommunications (voice and data) and earth observation (like wildfire detection and emissions monitoring). They were bumblefucking around for a long time. Seems like they finally got their act straight and got a HAPS to fly across the Pacific and back again.

I used to work for them. (They’re the ones that pushed me onto FMLA instead of providing alternate work when I had a chronic pain flare up while working facilities maintenance, then fired me when it took longer to find a specialist than there was FMLA.)

I made the social media faux pas of not putting an indicator that I was being sarcastic, though I feel it should be obvious. On the other hand, it would make me giggle to the point of incontinence if he started trying to rename every state America.

Putting aside the bizarre conceit of saying “you sound like someone from” a place where the statistically few people are “from” and many more people go to from other regions, this is still an odd result. Get your perplexing map here: mydialect.us/quiz-standar...

Maybe we should illustrate the parallel between the concept of “soul” and the concept of “mind”, then show the parallel between the technogarchs’ desire to own the minds of men with The Devil’s desire to own their souls.

Thirty eggs lined up across a roadway will be reduced by the number of eggs that get squashed by cars. Are the remaining eggs better? Of course not. They’re just what’s left. Why do we have shitty, maladaptive traits? Because they haven’t made us die yet.
