all my mornings are Monday-stuck in an an endless February...

@hanspetermeyer I read this and was like no way the STARS have that many playoff wins just by way of not being as old as any of the other franchises listed but uh yeah they do

A YouTube comment I left on a video of Jay Graber's remarks at ATmosphere Seattle 2025 that reads:

"She acknowledges criticism that she and Bluesky have received but handwaves it away: "the AT protocol here is what's fundamentally different."

How is the AT protocol, which is currently solely controlled by a single company (Bluesky), a company backed by millions of dollars in VC funding from the same wallets of the wealthy investors behind the companies that got us in this mess in the first place, fundamentally different? These are important concerns to address if we are to achieve the goals she is setting, as she later says, "we need a democratic foundation for a digital society." Yet Bluesky solely holds the foundation for AT protocol.

And what of the democratic institutions that already exist? The W3C has been a robust, global, and democratic governing body with participation from countries, corporations, universities, and more with control over standards (such as CSS, HTML, XML) that have sewn the fabric of the internet for the last 30 years. W3C has a social protocol, ActivityPub, which already has a multitude of software built atop of it, with millions of users. W3C is not mentioned by Jay despite being a great example of the world she is imagining."
