When I was diagnosed with HIV, aged 30, I was told I could expect to live for another 20 years. Today I turn 59. HIV treatment works. Science saves lives. Tell everyone.

Me, shortly before my 30th birthday and around the time I believe I acquired HIV.
In this black and white photo, I’m dressed up in black tie (although no actual tie) ready to go to a fancy event. My suit was hired.
This may be the most handsome photo of me that there is, which is why I’m happy to share it.

On effective HIV treatment there is ZERO risk of sexual transmission. How amazing is that? The fear and ignorance that still surrounds HIV creates barriers to testing and the treatment that saves our lives AND prevents sexual transmission. End HIV stigma to end the epidemic. #ZeroHIVStigmaDay

There were 522 victims of homicide recorded in the year ending March 2025, 8% lower than the previous year and the lowest number recorded in a decade. Each of these cases is its own tragedy but the narrative that murder rates are out of control in the UK is false.

New HIV cases in the US have been declining in recent years as more people are treated. Effective HIV treatment means there is no risk of sexual transmission. Diagnosing and treating all people who live with HIV is key to ending the epidemic, in the US and globally.
