Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 26mI remember this. 1978–1979 Muldoon and his administration started developing relationships with gang leaders and members to direct state funded work schemes and co-ops. 1981 Muldoon’s cabinet formally established the Committee on Gangs to address gang issues through social and employment solutions. 000
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 14/10/2026Alaska was a really good deal too. $7.2 million. Only 2 cents per acre. The Louisiana purchase was 4 cents per acre. 010
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 14/10/2026More useful ground up to make fertilizer. Those little soil microbes would be able to deal with all the toxic crap in them. I exclude MacKenzie Scott from the general class of billionaire scum. 110
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 09/10/2026New Zealand's last execution by hanging was in 1957. There were still doubts about his guilt. The death penalty is a monstrosity. The USA is in an interesting club though with Nth Korea, China and Saudi Arabia. 040
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 07/10/2026As of June that was 218,000 people who vote they have just lost. The Nats are complete idiots. It starts at the top with Mr "Sorted". 050
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Beneficiary bashing makes no sense. It simply appeals to far right nutters. Nobody wants to be on a benefit and if you are you couldn't afford drugs in any case. 000

Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 01/10/2026The problem is caused by the ticket clipping from Mastercard and Visa. That is why the EFTPOS card incurs no fee. It is locally controlled. What we need is paywave version of EFTPOS. 000

Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 01/10/2026You support a party because of their policies so you give them your party vote. You like Joe Blogs from another party so you give him your electorate vote. Joe Blogs's party does not support the policies you like and so the policies are dead in the water. Your vote has gained you nothing. 100
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I agree with the last sentence. But the best policies deserve both your votes. The local candidate may be a tosser but it's their party policies that count. The policies that you support. 100
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I don't like the Nationals or John Key however I am just of the opinion that splitting your vote is counter productive. Vote splitting has lead us to the utter mess that parliament is in today. 000
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Hey Kiwi's! Don't split your vote in the upcoming election. It's a deeply flawed strategy. John Key is absolutely correct. Vote for your favourite party and tick the electorate candidate of that party. #nzpol 400

Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026No New Zealand suffragists were seriously injured or hurt while campaigning, as the local movement relied entirely on peaceful and legal methods. This organized, non-violent approach successfully won the parliamentary vote for all New Zealand women in September 1893. 000

Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Back in the 80's I visited the USA and stayed in a hotel on the outskirts of Chicago. My business there was a couple of km's away. I didn't have a rental car. I walked - there was no footpath so the whole experience was hair raising. I repeated this over several days. It was totally weird to a Kiwi. 000
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 07/09/2026According to Google: "Both New Zealand and Denmark are highly windy, maritime nations, but New Zealand is significantly windier overall and experiences much higher extreme wind energy" Living in Wellington I can attest to this. 030

Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Social media has no value to society. We should just ban all of it. Geoblock the IP addresses and heavily regulate VPNs. I suppose it's hypocritical for me to be on Bluesky but we could create our own version. 101
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Let's geoblock all of it. It's just like porn - it needs to be expunged. 010

Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 24/08/2026I think the free range chicken farmers are doing a great job. Having them inside for a wee while until the bird flu thing dies down makes sense. Poilievre expressed support for rejecting disadvantageous terms under pressure, emphasizing that Canada must prioritize a level playing field over a rushed or damaging compromise. Ford fully supports PM Carney’s decision to suspend trade negotiations with the USA. 000
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 07/08/2026I asked Google. "Yes, an AI agent can directly generate raw machine code (binary or hexadecimal opcodes) without using a traditional compiler or assembler, provided the output is written directly to memory or a file meant to be executed directly by the computer's processor." 000
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 07/08/2026The thing about babies is that they are a book unwritten. To categorise them as this or that is beyond absurd. 000
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Back in the day a programmer could update a program by zapping the machine code directly rather than rerunning the compiler or assembler. In theory a programmer could code directly in binary. There is no reason why an AI could not create software by writing binary directly and quickly. 100
Tony Watson @old-watsonian.bsky.social · 21/06/2026That is a very silly rule. I wonder how they could enforce such a ban. I notice that Germany discarded a similar rule. 110
