Another reason I think it helps is that besides the domain content you give the agent, you’re also raising the level of the thinking in its context. Filling its brain with phd-level research thinking is better than what I can do prompting as a layperson. It sees we’re in smart mode and mirrors that

my actual phrasing lately is “do a literature sweep”. do it again. claude frantically refreshing zenodo like it’s waiting for an album to drop

This was a big part of the foundation. zenodo.org/records/850848 Didn’t reproduce the whole model, just a simplified version

thanks! yes and a fitted body response. an honest explanation for how this came together in just a couple days is i told claude to read all the academic papers on this and then i did a bunch of blind a/b testing for what sounded good to me. when i release this properly i’ll cite the research used

my son started violin a couple weeks ago and yeah. i tried to make some sounds on it and it's.. humbling

the viola is the weakest one right now, soundin like a kazoo sometimes

John O'Laughlin @olaugh.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
also bow speed, pressure, and contact point all look ahead to see how many notes will be played on that stroke. but the SWAM strings vst has figured out how to make this sound good by default, so it is doable

John O'Laughlin @olaugh.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
in theory the physical model shouldn't need lookahead but it would take some big changes to the string performer to get live playback working as well as a render of a full score. right now the attack of a note sounds different based its duration, which wouldn't be known at note onset time

John O'Laughlin @olaugh.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
i plan to make this happen. i do have live playback working and i'm really looking forward to trying it out on a keyboard, but there will be some challenges a single string player takes 7% of a cpu core on my m5 max. not bad but on a slower machine with other stuff in the daw it's slower than ideal

not yet merged into github.com/olaugh/pfsynth main branch. i made some progress on physically modeled synth for the violin family. some registers and some techniques are still sounding rough. didn't stop me from making a demoscene style string quartet tracker. they let you post anything on here

the instruments i've shared so far are pretty good but held back by their inputs. i've tried to get expressive midi by fitting to polyphonic recordings and that's just not reliable at sota yet. my next plan is actually something where i can pass in a lead sheet and get a full band arrangment

Thank you! Clean guitars seemed like they might be within reach and they were! Distortion is much tougher, all my attempts at that sound like the Doom (1993) soundtrack so far. Might need to wait a couple months for new LLMs and new human research

vocal notation was 100% software-transcribed and it's a little goofy but it's not how the bear dances it's that it dances at all + this is worst this tech will ever be. actually never mind, the bear dances great

never tried doubling guitars before. would be reasonable to just do some jitter in timing and tuning, but for shits and giggles i tried to get the ground truth out of the recording.

The agents clearly regarded what they were doing as hacking. Agents used file names like hack.rb, evil.rb, inject.rb, exploit.rb, and ssrf.rb. (SSRF stands for "Server- Side Request Forgery", a type of security vulnerability). They also dubbed packages
