💯💯💯 as he feels safer getting close to your vestige, I think he feels safer being vulnerable and creative and putting his thoughts to the page. If I can humbly suggest... maybe the journaling manifests in the sketchbook where he attempted his shitty bird sketches?
Quote from UESP detailing houseguest dialogue from companion Sharp-as-Night:
"I'm not known for relaxing, but sometimes I'll let myself bird watch for a bit. I'll take notes of the types I see in different places. Even tried sketching them once, but the results were pitiful. So bad you couldn't even tell they were birds."

I decided to pick up container gardening as a hobby at the top of the year because I knew it was going to be a stressful one (for different reasons) & I wanted an excuse to be outside more/take advantage of our south-facing patio. Here's my first real harvest from the chaos garden!!
green beans, jalapeños, carbon tomatoes (maybe?? I thought all those seedlings died out but idk what they would be otherwise), chocolate cherry tomatoes, Cherokee purple heirloom tomatoes, green bell peppersA ground floor apartment patio overgrown with plants. If you're reading this the Lakota squash has taken over and trapped us inside PLEASE SEND HELP

A quote too good to cut down for this thread... at the expense of a link card. Oh well. Worth it. from Alien: Into Charybdis by Alex White. Added alt text for easier reading:
Xenoarchaeologists call someone’s first exposure to alien cultures the “depersonalization effect,” the sudden recognition that the universe isn’t human, or for humans. These strange blasphemies remind Kamran that civilization is an illusion—that time has long existed without it. Kamran is just a collection of chemicals—an unnoticed spark in the galactic timeline, as random as the next blip of a species. When he dies, he will be forgotten, because he is meaningless.

Decided to make something to commemorate this milestone. Behold! My 2025 book blanket! All books in reading order as granny squares with color of yarn representing genre. Finished just in time to curl up inside and read some more.
A picture of 14 different skeins of acrylic yarn, all different colors with text denoting what genre they will represent in the finished project:
Maroon - mystery
Red - adventure/thriller
Pink - romance
Bright yellow and black with multicolor specks - Star Wars
Soft gray with multicolored specks - nonfiction
Bright green - humor/comedy
Forest green - literary/general fiction
Teal - science fiction
Corn flower blue - fantasy
Dusty pale blue - memoir/biography
Purple - spicy romance
Black - horror
A stack of one hundred crocheted granny squares of many colors with the ends all woven in. The stack is strung up on a length of yarn to keep them together and in order. In my house we called this the granny square shawarma A crocheted 10 x 10 granny square blanket with squares of many colors denoting various genres of books that I read in order last year. They are joined by a dark gray heather border with a nice crab stitch around the edge. I had trouble making it lie perfect on the carpet because my dog Riley thought we were playing a game. If you see any mistakes, no you didn't.

Also added these fine additions to my collection this year. See alt text for names/author's and why I decided to collect them
The Price of Freedom by A.C. Crispin - an excellent tie-in novel for the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Collected because I love it so much and because the print version is very rare. The edition sent to me by the kind soul who took my offer on ebay had the original receipt inside the front cover from when they bought it in 2011.

Curses, Inc. by Vivian Vande Velde - I was smitten with this cover art ever since I saw it on Tumblr years and years back. It's the banner image on my profile and my profile pic in a few different places. I'll probably read the book too, but I primarily bought it for the wonderful cover illustration by Tristan Elwell.

Middle Earth Quest: A Spy in Isengarde, a gamebook by Terry K. Amthor - same reason as Curses, Inc. really. I am hopelessly charmed by wizard pondering orb (aka Saruman), illustrated here by Angus McBride.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition Encyclopedia Magica Volume 1 - this book holds the famous "dawizard" and "wizard" typos that made it to print. I got it to keep me humble and to have a piece of ttrpg history that I thought for a long time was just apocryphal lore.

My angel of a mother-in-law made me a Sharp-themed hat after he shipped. Here is her incredible beadwork. It being a baseball cap especially tickled me cuz of the many "women want me/fish fear me" hats I imagined Sharp wearing after the team settled on his non-combat perk. 🧵2/3

3 years ago today, companions systems designer (& one of my favorite people) Carrie said she was turning on Sharp's "brain"--he would start responding/reacting to things in game. In my mind, this day became his birthday. I ended up referencing it in his lore. Happy birthday, Sharp-as-Night! 🧵1/3

Cinematic parallels
A screenshot from the video game Sea of Thieves. A rock on the beach of Discovery Ridge has an ashen outline of something vaguely human shaped. I would love to think this was some insane deep cut reference to a now unplayable mission in D2 based on SoT's recent Destiny collab, but it almost certainly just me experiencing destiny brain rot. A screenshot from the video game Destiny 2. A rock in the Ascendant Plane has an ashen outline of the light water formerly know as Callum Sol. This is taken from a mission in one of the seasons following Forsaken, which by the way isn't playable anymore because it is no longer in the game.

Actually. Just realized there were 37 returns on "heartbeat" (singular) for the entire trilogy. So that's like 12 times per book. Mabe it was an editorial mandate and Andor's "No more than 12" is actually a reference to that

Look we gotta give him credit for paring it down from "a handful of heartbeats" in the first half of the book to just "a pair" for most of the rest. Tho he does put in one more "handful" near the end. As a treat

A mobile screenshot of the card-based roguelike game Balatro. Painted deck (+2 hand size but -1 joker slot), gold stake, ante 9/8, round 21, jokers are Baron, Blueprint, Square Joker (holo) and Ride the Bus (holo). Baron scales xMult by the amount of kings held in hand, and I worked hard to get my kings in deck up to 12, but in this hand of cards, there wasn't a single king. spoilers for Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator but FUCK these movies really put the love in Lovecraft didn't they
Shot from Re-Animator (1985) where Dan Cain is on the floor curling into the fetal position while Herbert West huddles over him with a shock blanket. And they were roommates Shot from Re-Animator (1985) where Dan Cain, covered in blood, hovers over the similarly blood-covered and lifeless body of his fiancee Meg Halsey. He looks tenderly down at her and his right hand is raised, poised to administer the vibrant, glowing, yellow-green re-animator serum. Somehow this is the height of romance to a freak like me Shot from Bride of Re-Animator (1990) where Herbert West approaches Dan Cain with arms outstretched, holding the heart of Dan's fiancee, Meg, cupped in his hands. There is simply no heterosexual explanation for this Shot from Bride of Re-Animator (1990) where Herbert West gazes upon his creation, the Bride, one tenderly caressing her face, the other taking her hand like they are about to dance. They used to like, MAKE movies, you know?

also look at these two goofballs. they just did this naturally. besties?
Two companion characters from The Elder Scrolls Online, Sharp-as-Night and Azandar al-Cybiades. They are standing close together in a circle of green arcanist runes during a moment in Azandar's first quest. Azandar has one hand up like he's preparing to cast a spell, and with the way they are positioned, it looks like his arm could be around Sharp's waist. People who know Sharp understand that he would normally not be cool with this, so one must assume that he and Azandar are besties to account for this close contact without someone losing an eye.
