Lord, the literal next paragraph
Mr. Zhao was growing animated.
"Democracy has been hailed as, like, the holy grail for the last couple hundred years, but democracies are inefficientẠạhe said as we approached the palace. "If you get a benevolent dictator, it's actually extremely efficient. There's very little debate going on.
You don't waste time on a lot of frivolous stuff.

This is not a new phenomenon, but seeing this and Jensen Huang not knowing his address in such quick succession really helps explain the dissonance in tech and the products it makes. Like, of course they think you don’t need friction or introspection www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/b...

bringing back this one for anyone who's feeling stressed or overwhelmed lately
a tweet from sean that reads:

my tip for dealing with… everything, lately, is to just occassionally say “on the bright side…” out loud. no need to follow it up with anything. just throw it out in the middle of a bleak conversation and let the mood lift for even a brief moment

Once again thinking about how Elon Musk said everyone in the world can have a penthouse because of AI and robots
An Elon musk tweet. It reads:

Actually, Al/Robotics will mean everyone can have a penthouse if they want. The output of goods & services will be several orders of magnitude higher than today's economy.
Read the lain Banks Culture books for the best imagining of how it will be.
That said, what is the future you want? Amazing abundance seems the best to me.

fwiw the AI guy who claims to have connected him to the PR firm says Coxon was already inundated with media requests by the time he’d even made the intro. grain of salt of course but also IMO I attach a much larger grain of salt to pirate wires and it’s own agendas
A tweet from Nate Soares

It reads: it was me lol. when jacob's tweet was at 100k likes everyone in Al safety was texting me like
"youre in the news a lot, you should help this kid get on the news" and so I asked DEY to help him. they landed him exactly zero hits, because by the time the tweet passed 500k likes the whole world was banging down his door.

A screenshot of a TechCrunch story about Tesla's Semi launch event. The highlighted passage reads:

Musk also pitched the truck as making “a ton of sense economically, because the cost of electricity per mile is much less than the cost of diesel, especially in these crazy times” — though that final clause conveniently glosses over the fact that diesel prices have shot up because the president Musk himself helped elect has started a war that’s roiled energy markets.

I try to keep up with enthusiast blogs and smaller news sites on my beat (for a number of reasons) but it’s become such a slog lately because almost all of them use AI now
A screenshot of an article with AI-generated text. It reads:

licensee's cars would effectively become esla hardware wearing someone else's badge. That is the visible obstacle. The less visible one is data. A licensed FSD stack would report back the same telemetry Tesla collects from its own fleet, giving Tesla a continuous read on how a competitor's cars are actually driven, where they struggle, and how often drivers intervene. For an automaker trying to build its own autonomy program, or simply trying to keep its build quality and safety record private, handing Tesla that visibility could be a bigger cost than the hardware bill. It is the reason the Supercharger comparison only goes so far. Opening a charging plug cost Tesla very little. Opening FSD would cost a rival something it cannot get back.

A screenshot of a CNN story about mortgage rates climbing and people turning to adjustable rate mortgages

It reads:

Among those still looking to buy, more borrowers are turning to adjustable-rate mortgages, or ARMs - a riskier loan product that played a role in the housing market's buildup to the 2008 financial crisis.
Nearly 10% of borrowers opted for an
ARM last week, according to the MBA.
These loans typically offer a lower fixed rate for five, seven or 10 years before resetting with market rates. If rates are higher when the fixed period ends, borrowers can face sharply higher monthly payments.

ding ding ding data centers are the "golden goose," Trump says
a Trump truth social post that reads:

"The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor. If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign. The good news is that there are plenty of other places that want them. If we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame. China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement. Actually, they can’t believe it is happening! President DJT"

what a fun attitude to bring to a corporate announcement
Adam Mosseri’s Threads post about instagram’s new logo. It says:

Thought I'd share this on Threads to and see what the hot takes might be. We updated the Instagram wordmark today, which is more than a decade old and felt dated. We feel the refresh is sharper and more modern, but references the original and has the simplicity and craft that's always made it Instagram.
