One thing I never thought I'd be able to say is I'm now an active book reader. Since I started a few months ago I've powered through ten novels in a way I would have thought impossible once before. Here's everything I've read this year ordered by how much I enjoyed them (top is best)

1. Babel, R.F. Kuang
2. Piranesi, Susana Clarke
3. Brat, Gabriel Smith
4. Withered Hill, David Barnett
5. The Player of Games, Iain M. Banks
6. Consider Phlebas, Iain M. Banks
7. Circe, Madeline Miller
8. The Memory Police, Yoko Ogawa
9. Gateway, Frederik Pohl
10. The Great When, Alan Moore

Bit of a good news bad news situation here! good news: I've got a new deck tech up on EDHREC for the upcoming Sygg commander from Lorwyn bad news: I'm going to be taking a bit of a break from writing on EDHREC now that I'm a bit more gainfully employed and have less free time!

In the haze of all the mess that is modern Magic I have been escaping into the game's most freeing and unifying format and in this article I urge you to do the same!

This week I take a look at a ruling that's been through many changes over Magic's history and brought into contention recently after some theory crafting by @saffronolive.bsky.social So the question is, in 2025, do we still need a legend rule?

I am a big Universes Beyond hater on the best of days but tried to be very level headed as I explain a problem I've noticed might be having an effect on Magic design now that we're getting half the year filled with UB sets
