The Pokémon company could learn a lot from Aniimo.

Like yes, having establishing shots and backgrounds to show the reader where we’re at is important but they don’t have to be in EVERY PANEL. 🤣

2410

The one thing from art school that I sometimes beat myself up for is backgrounds. Like, there are so many critically acclaimed manga that I love that there’s nary a background for multiple pages. 😂

I can’t bring myself to support a queer brand that has been around as long as it has and doesn’t even try to be size-inclusive. Especially when they have the resources to do so.

Despite how cute a lot of the NastyPig clothes have been over the last year, I can’t bring myself to buy any of it because: 1. It’s a little expensive 2. They barely make anything larger than a 2XL.

The taste is insane. A Michelin star course meal.

The Simpsons arcade game is CHEF’S KISS

The flavors are dancing on my tongue!

Chun-Li’s stage music could wake me from a coma.

I love when the people in my life tell me I’m looking beefy unprompted because I have a difficult time actually being able to see any of the progress I’m making in the gym. It feels good. 😌

Being called big boy boy your parents has a VERY DIFFERENT feeling than being called a big boy but cute boys at the bars and online. 😩

There’s nary an HVAC system in any of theses bars here in SF I fear. 😩

Not too much on my makeup but my sailor moon costume I wore in 2023 was cute af.

I wanted to be Super Sailor Moon specifically for Halloween but any version of the costume I’ve seen is a little too expensive. Especially considering I’m probably going to wear a maximum of 3 times in October and it likely getting covered in sweat and alcohol at some gay bar with no AC. 🤣

When I make it to the pearly gates, I PRAY there’s a Bojangles on the other side. The Bo’berry biscuit remains undefeated.

I can’t wait to get back home tomorrow.

If I could block the show from my feed I absolutely would.

You truly can’t tell your Boomers parents anything. They’re just so argumentative for no reason. 🫠

Yeah! It’s absolute insanity

D.J. Kirkland @ohheydj.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

ReedPop has absolutely lost the plot by charging $900 to table in the artist alley at PAX. So yeah, I wouldn’t exactly bank on my original work selling well. I WOULD be making fan art prints and merch of popular things if I were attending.

I’ve never watched so much Family Feud before than I have when I’m home with my parents. It’s like the only thing my Dad watches on tv all day. 🫠

2320

My tiktoks/reels I made about my disastrous FedEx experience during MomoCon brought me in a decent amount of people. Turning lemons into lemonade type shit.

0220

The only convention I’ve seen actually enforcing the table height rule was AnimeExpo. They had volunteers walking around with a height measuring stick to verify.

What’s crazy to me is a lot of y’all that I know personally that don’t do a lot of social media stuff are so fucking funny and interesting. The bits of you that you share with us online are great. I don’t fault any of yall for not wanting to do it to. It IS a lot of work. 😵‍💫🫠

1311

It’s easy for us that have been in the game for a while to forget this. We spend most of our time talking to other comics people who can and will support our work but we often forget about the average consumer that goes to these conventions.

030

HOWEVER. Most of the people that find me at cons and spend money at my table have all come up to me and told me they’ve been following me online for years and enjoy the videos I make. I’m not saying you have to do what I do but I’m not gonna act like it didn’t help exponentially.

4532

Yall not gonna like what I’m about to say but I’m gonna say it anyway because y’all aren’t gonna beat me up. I know yall don’t want to be social media people because some of y’all don’t want to be conflated with influencers which I totally get. I don’t consider myself one at all.

2482

I’m speaking as somebody who’s career really started to take off from making Super Smash Bros. fan art and selling t-shirts of them. I have people today that still come up to me that tell me they’ve been following me since then.

1410

It IS also on the artists to look at the shows they’re applying for. I wouldn’t ever submit an application for artist alley for a furry convention because I’m not a furry artist. It’s as simple as that.

21088

I’m sure these folks have amazing original ideas that they’d love to focus on. Those of yall that have been doing cons for as long as I have knows the average consumer is going through artist alley looking for fan art and merch of their favorite characters.
