Honored to be giving a talk on the conservation potential of Nepenthes in ex situ collections this week at the International Carnivorous Plant Society meeting at the beautiful Hortus Botanicus Leiden! 🌱

🆕 New issue out now! 🌿 Special Issue: Plant Conservation Genetics From population genomics and genetic diversity to habitat fragmentation, translocations and conservation management, discover the latest research shaping plant conservation. 📖 botany.fyi/865ujn
The cover image shows Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, the habitat of Salvia daiguii. This species is only distributed on cliffs around caves, and faces an extremely high risk of extinction. In this special issue of Annals of Botany, Xiao et al. present a study that utilizes whole genome resequencing data to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the population genetic diversity and structure, population history, and deleterious mutations of S. daiguii, elucidating the genetic basis for the species’ endangered status. [See Xiao et al., pp. 20–33.]

Women & girls bear the heaviest burden of environmental degradation. 🌿 @ipbes.net #GlobalAssessment This #IWD2025, let's remember that inclusive environmental governance isn't just fair - it's essential for effective biodiversity protection.
A beautiful leaf-like round patterned image with overlay text that reads "Land and or resource tenure insecurity, as well as declines in nature, have greater impacts on women and girls, who are most often negatively impacted." - IPBES #GlobalAssessment and the IPBES logo are also visible elements.

Look, I know for many of us it’s a struggle just to face every day & deal with our own personal worlds. But every individual choice has a larger, longer impact. If you think paying attention to global ecosystem collapse is a luxury academic exercise, you’re wrong. This is our future.
