Yes, it was 11:25. I had hoped it would be something in the 1 p.m. hour so I could explain to him it would be 13 something in military time. I still automatically think military time in my head because so many of my jobs used it.

A 17-year-old kid was shot dead Saturday night about 4 blocks SW of me. From all reports, he was a good kid. This afternoon U.S. Marshals arrested a guy, 18, in Morganfield,KY. He's awaiting extradiction on murder charges. Saturday night they detained two guys, 20 and 17. Make it make sense.

Proof of prices being crazy high. I like to keep a couple frozen Aldi breakfast bowls for when I feel lazy. Over the past 35 days the cost has risen from $1.69 to $1.85 and today they are $1.99. I can afford this but I won't buy on principle. I suspect the packaging is costly.

I live in SW Indiana. Both those who live within the city limits and those outside and in extremely rural areas viscerally hate the idea of data centers. It's palpable. The other big hate: Flock cameras. Both come with the spectre of "Big Brother" & folks HATE it.

I get a cognitive test with my annual Medicare exam. This year I had to draw a clock showing a speficic time. LOL with the doc because they will have to change that in coming years as today's kids only know digital. Agreed the dog has rabies.

Second night in a row I couldn't fall asleep. Finally drifted off around 2:30, awoke at 5:59 and went back to sleep until 8:59. I feel a little draggy, but much better than yesterday on no sleep.

I'm happy to see I'm not the only person who uses pecans. The first time I made pesto, pine nuts were extremely expensive so I used pecans instead. I've used them since. I make cubes & freeze them. I put some cream in a pan, threw in a pesto cube & it made a great sauce for chicken breast.

I was sitting here last night DMing a friend when I heard multiple gun shots coming from the west or southwest. Didn't hear any sirens, but when the cops arrived in the 800 block of Madison they found 17-year-old kid dead on the sidewalk. 6 blocks west of me. This shit is just crazy.

Briscoe suffered a trauma today. He snuck into the closet while I was putting away clothing. I didn't see him. He spent about 30 minutes in there. His sister Benson began screaming & I couldn't figure out why. Then I heard muffled meows coming from the closet. Oops!

The folks pushing the pocket park came to one of our neighborhood assoc meetings. But I think it was pre-Rita. We have tried for years to get folks from Adams, Monroe & Jefferson to come to meetings to no avail.

I got the old dog house scrubbed out. It's drying in the sun. When it's dry, I'll stuff it w/ straw from the bale in the back of my Outback. It'll be in the yard for the tabby cat to use if it wants. Some of the straw will help grass grow in the front yard bare patches.

It's hard to hold up to the standard that was Missy. Send her an email about something & she was right on it. A true public servant. Rita approaches everything by doing a ton of research. I appreciate that. Plus having MS & being blind in one eye gives her a perspective not everyone has. Love Mary!

I voted at Central library. Unfortunately I just missed city council reps Rita Taylor (my rep) & at large Mary Allen. I voted for Allen who is running for congress. I've spoken w/her a couple times & she is the real deal. She has put in the hard work; visited every nook & crany of the 8th district.

One of my brothers balked at being a pallbearer at our dad's funeral last July. "Can't we pay someone to do that?" he asked of the funeral director. I was so freaking mad I had to walk away. Our cousin finally talked him into doing it. A friend once said "There's no hardball like family hardball."

Medical professionals are prohibited from participating in lethal injections. Someone who doesn't stick veins on the daily isn't prepared to do this sort of work. My nephew's a paramedic & how he hits a vein in the back of a bumpy ambulance is beyond me. Commute her sentence to life.

Exactly. Most of those folks hadn't been in a library in 30 years I bet. EVPL rivals what I grew up with in St. Louis. I love walking in East & seeing a couple kids playing chess. It gives me hope.

On FB a few weeks ago folks were screaming about Red Bank being torn down & replaced as a waste of $. It had MAJOR structural issues aside from being too small. I pointed out 2 of our 8 library buildings we got for free so shut up about it. Willard's expansion is beautiful!
