mmj's stakes in the gp is not just literal gain, its them overcoming their past, proof of their current resolve, and what actually makes them special as an idol group. vbs' is a literal gain of their burning need to be the center of the world of music, being better than before, proof of themselves

its most apparent in how their side charas are handled: rivals for vbs appear suddenly and we're told they sing good and their past connections to radder, rivals for mmj are pre-established (relight and cheerdays) so just seeing them in the briefing for their competition sets the tone of the room

adding insult to injury is the times they have mmj and vbs events next to each other like "look! theyre both in a tournament arc for global recognition!" but mmj has been EXPONENTIALLY better at the stakes, the tension, the competition, and connecting it to their unit's themes and personal growth
