This morning I spent 3 hours figuring out that: 😹 • Bluesky crunches a ROM cart PNG into a lossy .webp • ...but their REST API can upload preserving the full PNG • ...however the client app still shows the .webp version • (even though a third-party client could show the PNG)

🎈 I've just finished "Chombimon", a machine language monitor for the Chombit CPU! www.hybrix.dev/ref/chombimon The binary is 36k uncompressed (14k of which is the HASCII font). It implements a full hex editor, assembler, disassembler, and even the classic #C64 "w" stepping! [chombimon.png]

Hyundai and Kia added official GrapheneOS support to their apps months before Volkswagen banned GrapheneOS: discuss.grapheneos.org/d/31697-myhy... Pressure from Volkswagen customers on them can achieve the same thing. There's no legitimate reason to ban GrapheneOS so they'll undo it with pressure.

@opensource.block.xyz Goose because it is a standalone app that I control, I can read its source code and even fix bugs, and it can integrate with anything. Also, Goose works quite well with open source LLMs, so some company isn't harvesting all your thought processes to train their models.

Wow, smoothing is surprisingly effective! Today I stumbled across the Teletext G3 smooth mosaics, and was looking for example art. 😸 If the text display can reverse a character, then the full set of smoothing glyphs could be incorporated into a bitmap font by adding just 28 extra characters.

One more example of #teletext chunky letters smoothed by Level 1.5 G3 smooth mosaics. This one was harder. Some of the lines are one "sixel" thick; the "straight cut in half" nature of the G3 characters means some careful lining up was necessary. The "a" of Hammer and the "R" of hurt aren't perfect.

Agreed, my point was more about what could we do to enable noncommercial software like Notepad++ to get properly reviewed and approved, versus implying that users should trust it because it is open/free. Much of my own work is nonprofit OSS. We are compared against apps from vendors, like it or not.

Octopuses have three hearts and blue blood. Two of the hearts pump blood to the gills, whereas the third heart pumps to the rest of the body. When an octopus swims, the third heart actually stops beating, which is one reason why they prefer crawling to swimming. It is less tiring. 🐙

In the year 2025, what questions should people ask before they install an executable binary on their OS and give it access to their Documents folder? "Who makes this and why should I trust them?" is a basic question. Not merely trusting to be honest, but trusting to be meticulous about security.
