In his essay the Moon under Water George Orwell describes his perfect pub. I think mine would have - no music - no TVs showing sport or news - customer not using their phones and enjoying the company of others - a fossil museum And surprisingly I think I’ve found it the Square & Compass

Many people head to #oxford for #mayday but few places compare to sitting by the river in #abingdon

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the trees are in bloom and Trump has not yet dropped a nuclear bomb on Iran - sometimes it is the small things in life which raise a smile

It’s a sad reflection of our times that the greatest album of all time is as relevant now as it was when it was released 55 years ago

Nothing says “Peace on Earth and goodwill to all men” quite like an inflatable Stegosaurus with a Christmas hat

The ‘Fixing our broken planet’ exhibition at @nhm-london.bsky.social is depressing, yet fascinating. But it also makes me wonder if the museum has plans to reduce the amount of plastic sold in its multiple gift shops?

A reason to be optimistic in these bleak times? Greenham Common - once an airfield for nuclear bombers is now a nature reserve with orchids, adders and nightjars; the nuclear bunkers are now used for Star Wars films and the watchtower is now a splendid cafe.

An awful journey back from #DinoConUK but now relaxing watching #PrehistoricPlanet without doubt the best TV show ever made - I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched it

Spending dark winter months sorting out photographs and as I have posted recently I thought I would share some pictures of local orchids - starting with the pyramidal orchid. Taken back in 2012 - how the world has changed since then?

With the troubling rise of anti-vaccine movements the deadly six installation at @morethanadodo.bsky.social is impressive, thought provoking and very important
