Did you know that we have a second, behind the scenes podcast called Carrier Wave, where we talk about the production inspiration behind every episode? It’s available at all levels of our Patreon…

While this story draws from a lot of my various anxieties and fears about being alone in the woods, one of the incidents that inspired it happened just as described, 25 miles deep into the Trinity Alps, far from any established campsite.

We had a very lovely time at the LA Webfest! We didn’t win in any of our nominated categories, but the show opened with a special award for performances… and our very own Phil “The Observer” van Hest was one of the recipients.
Phil Van Hest, the observer on stage at the LA Webb fest accepting an award. He looks stunned, eyes glazed, as he gaze out over the crowd. The combined winners of the 16th annual LA Web fest, on stage with awardsThe Observable Radio team: Cameron Suey in a green suit, Wendy Hector in a black couture dress, Purpurina in resplendent sequins with a coy pumpkin mask, and a custom-made Observable Radio clutch, and Phil Van Hest in a gray suit. They stand on the red carpet, not sure which camera to smile at or how sincere to look.

Did I mention updates and other behind-the-scenes features are available the patrons at all levels, even free? Look how surprised Phil is.

We had a real hoot at the LA Web Fest this week where we got to meet lots of lovely people in audio drama, and creators from around the world. We will have more to say about it later but right now we are very tired.
A large video screen bearing the distorted text “this is not for you“ from the Observable Radio video trailer by Dæmon Core, being played in a theater full of living human beings. Their heads are visible on the bottom. They are living, and these heads are attached to their bodies. You cannot see the bodies, but take my word for it. Living bodies.

It finally happened… I knew the answer to one of these.
A post on Reddit audiodrama sub, reading:

I remember listening to a horror story on some podcast, where humans are starving and trying to connect to a human 911, but all they get are automated unhelpful responses.
QUESTION
Was it The Program? Or Magnus Protocol? Or one of the myriad horror antologies? Please help.

We got some good news last week from the LA Webfest.
The cover for Observable Radio with a stylized green radio tower, eyeball, sine wave and comet, only now it is festooned with gaudy Laurel’s proclaiming our nominations at the LA Webfest:

- best horror/thriller podcast
- best science fiction/fantasy podcast
- best sound design

Our selection from Cusco web Fest is also on there.

Finally, we're hard at work on a new logo and look for season two, while keeping some common elements. Here's a look at an early draft...
A circular logo with a sine wave in the back. in the foreground center there is a dark circle radiating lines hatched with pulsar data. Around it orbits another small circle, tracing a broken orbital around the center. It resembles an iris of an eye. Around that is a blazing sun.

Joining Tumblr allowed us to discover hitherto unexperienced and incredible Observable Radio fan art, like this absolute banger from yora-but-cooler on Tumblr.
Artwork of the observer crouched over a computer monitor with the text “if you’re listening to this without permission please stop.”

Behind him is a maze of chicken wire decorated with shoes and bloody feet behind that is a radio tower cloaked in black fog and a comet. Behind it all, gripping the edges of the frame is a many eyed dark figure

Some updates regarding our Instagram.
Meta's decision to allow and normalize hate speech is despicable and completely antithetical to our values at Observable Radio. As a result, we will be taking a step back from Instagram. We are not deleting our account at this time, but you can see updates on our show at Bluesky at @observableradio.com or at our Patreon, where we do have a free tier that includes regular show and shop updates.
