Obsessively checking my email, knowing full well I'm probably near the end of the reservation line for the Steam Frame, given my usual luck with RNG.

Using some of my energy waiting for the Steam Frame to clean my office, so I have space in there to actually use it.

Watching random people playing Half-Life: Alyx has me REALLY itching to get back into the VR space. I'm on the wait list to get a Steam Frame, but the wait is agonizing! T_T

Overall, definitely recommend. It's great practice whether you're just learning the language, or keeping your skills sharp.

obscurejackal.bsky.social @obscurejackal.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

The documentation for all of the equipment, as well as for Python itself, is provided in game, and is very easily searchable. The music choice is also really good. Very chill vibes, and has honestly helped me stay calm despite some frustrations with my own mistakes.

obscurejackal.bsky.social @obscurejackal.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

As someone still very new to Python, and programming as a whole, I've found the game to be at a fantastic level. The tutorial is good for setting your expectations, and making sure you know the necessary concepts. The work flow in the main game, while mostly unguided, does have a general direction.

Time to yap about Code: Terraform, the game I stream last night. It's a game all about automating the terraforming of a planet by writing scripts for all the various equipment needed, using Python as the programming language.

Gonna be streaming Code: Terraform, a new game about terraforming a planet by coding the various systems and equipment. Starting up at 7pm est. I'm still very new to python, so if you know the language, tips would be appreciated. www.twitch.tv/obscurejackal

Stream is delayed while I help a friend in FFXIV MSQ.

I feel like I should watch actually Evangelian before Evercold releases. Most of my knowledge of the story is from people discussing it, and memes.

I am exceptionally excited for this. This is exactly the kind of tank I was hoping for.

I still need to figure out which characters I want to focus on, and see how much I enjoy it, but I'm looking forward to putting some time in.

Trying out the Tokon open beta. Just got through the tutorial, since I haven't been super into fighting games for a long while, and this is also my first tag fighter. The skill floor is shockingly low, which I think is great, and it's clear that the ceiling is going to be wildly high.

I need a spot to take pictures of my prints. These aren't good pictures for an online store.

I saw that someone made what looks like it'd be an interesting lore video on Elite: Dangerous. I wish I could care...

I'm actually bad at navigation, and need direction and repetition to learn a route. Hollow Knight and (I assume) Silk Song's map handling actively punishes my inability to recall pathing.

010

obscurejackal.bsky.social @obscurejackal.bsky.social · 18/07/2026

I finally figured out my issue with Hollow Knight. I don't like the added restriction of having to sit at a bench to see where I've been. I much prefer Metroid's map handling of drawing locations as I visit them in real time.

Meant to do a reminder post per day, but I'm bad at this. So hey! Less than 24 hours to my Q&A stream talking about being trans in the military. Friday 17 July at 7pm EST. www.twitch.tv/obscurejackal

I'll be doing an AMA stream on Friday, 17 July, starting 7PM EST. Come ask questions about transgender topics, my military service, and how the 2 relate.

As I build my understanding of coding, I've started putting together the skeleton for a game. Starting with Sugarcube in Twine. I think it would be extra neat to use my renewed motivation to draw to illustrate it as well.

020

obscurejackal.bsky.social @obscurejackal.bsky.social · 07/07/2026

Finally decided to start drawing again. This is the first thing I've drawn in a VERY long time. Proud of myself.

Going to be streaming the new Starfox remake tonight! Let's see how well I remember things, and how these new cutscenes change things up! Looking at 7:30pm EST start time.

A bit late on the jump, but I don't think I'm a fan of the OoT remake's reveal. The fact it's being done isn't an issue, but I did not like the art direction in the reveal trailer. We'll see how I feel about it when we get more.

I DON'T WANT EVERY MULTIPLAYER GAME TO BE PVP! Every time I see a cool ass idea and then it goes, "PvPvE" I'm immediately removed from any sort of interest. Game devs, you can just make your cool ass game with deep combat and mechanics PvE. It's okay! People will play it!

I think I'm just using Ko-fi. I hadn't really looked at it before, and it feels easier to keep things in one place for now. I'll add things as I go, so expect me to drop some STL files over there for useful and useless doohickeys. ko-fi.com/obscurejackal
