Old and busted. All that duct tape was on it when I bought it. The stickers I had on it 30 years ago gave up and fell off, but the duct tape is still going.

Got a new guitar case for my Sheraton, as the old one was old-and-busted when I made Atlanta Discount Music throw it in for free when I bought the guitar 30 years ago. So I got out the Yamaha FG I string Nashville style and did a set while I was switching out the Bovedas.

Went out to sweep off the snow and was surprised by the lowing of cattle. The whole herd was traversing off to the east in single file.

A herd of black cattle traverses the base of a snow-covered mesa in the moments before dawn. Dry grass sticks up through the snow. The snow was so dry that it didn't stick to the needles of the pines and firs, which stand green against the brown and white of the snow and grass.

Got out Dad's guitar he bought in The Sixties and did a set. He never learned, but he always loved that I did. It had typical Yamaha student neck problems but my buddy J nursed it back to health. I string it up Nashville style now, to baby the neck a little.

Made a pie from Mom's recipe.

If there is going to be pie discourse, honor demands I add Mom's pie recipe. Not included is that Mom always covered the pie with whipped cream. The first Thanksgiving after they were married, Dad's mother came to Mom's father's for dessert. 1/2

Pumpkin Pie

recipe from: the Bates Cookbook

serves:

9-9.5" pie

Prepare. One crust Pie Dough

Pumpkin Filling:

2 Eggs, lightly beaten

Cups Libby's Pumpkin (1 can)

½ tsp. Salt

½ cup Sugar

1½ tsp. Cinnamon

¼ tsp. Cloves

¼ tsp. Nutmeg

¼ tsp. Allspice

1⅓ Cups Evaporated milk or Light Cream (13 fl. oz. / 1 can)

Spices should be Added to taste.

Mix filling ingredients in order given. Bake in preheated, hot oven (425°F) for 15 min.

Reduce temperature to moderate (350°F) and continue Baking for 45 min. or until Knife inserted into center comes out clean.
