Nonsense. Other than daft in-jokes, this 'rivalry' doesn't exist in any real sense on the Devon/Cornwall border (lifelong resident here). Just like the jam/cream first debate - confected by incomers at some point in the last 25-30 yrs. Tiresome. There's more 'rivalry' between North and South Devon!

Pass a law then, holding tech CEOs legally and financially responsible for any damage done to anyone as a result of their product. Why ever not?

Not a Muslim, but moved to Whitechapel from Devon a week after 9-11. The regular attacks I saw on local Bangladeshi shopkeepers, shocking racist and intimidating graffiti everywhere and the need for dozens of cops outside East London Mosque every day for months made me thoroughly ashamed.

Why now I wonder? I'm sure there are no more drugs around than in the past. Fewer public toilets?

Just spent 15 mins rescuing a Peacock butterfly caught in remnant spiderwebs in my living room window. It's feet and antennae were totally enmeshed in old cobweb and it was freaking out. Very hard to extract without ripping one of its limbs off. We got there, it flies!

I have a similarly visceral reaction to 'cuppa'. I don't think the word has ever come out of my mouth. But I really don't know why I feel this way about it.

The sea is lapping into Marsland and then Welcombe Mouths here on the Devon/Cornwall border. You can see Lundy on the horizon too. A couple of mornings ago xx

It's fine to disagree, but I have made the conclusion independently based on the evidence that was presented.

Seems like different words to describe the same thing. Having no reasonable doubts and being sure. The evidence as it was presented is so full of holes though it would seem speculation (which is very much still prohibited) did come into it.

It's pretty simple... If you use AI to create art, then you're not an artist. If you use AI to write, then you're not a writer. If you use AI to make music, then you're not a musician. If you use AI to animate, then you're not an animator. If you use AI to make films, then you're not a filmmaker.

I visited a substack today where the 'writer' clearly used AI rather than bothering to write themselves. All the clues were there; liberal use of the em dash, describing things in 3s, saying why something 'matters', dull, repetitive content. It was free, but I'm sure many like it aren't.

Reasonable doubt seems to have become an arbitrary, rather than fundamental, consideration in such cases . It's disturbing. I honestly don't know what I personally think about her guilt, but that shouldn't matter when the 'doubt' is not eliminated by the 'evidence'.

That's an awful lot of admin/action for someone who's just been dragged to hell and back to reliably achieve in the given timeframe.

I'm curious about this too, in what sense could it ever be OK to sanction a Jewish person for expressing identical views to a non Jew? Whatever it actually might mean, the wording is atrocious.

Fab tribute to The Bear- a clearly pivotal cat muse. I've got a 16 yr old black rescue cat which I named 'Bear' when I inherited him from an old lady 10 yrs ago, (he came with a racist name originally). I'd best not inform him he's not 'The' Bear because that might permanently damage his mojo.

Finger post sign on North Cornwall coast showing two routes to Plymouth. One 87 miles the other 300.

Remember these well! If you haven't seen it, there's a clip on YouTube findable under 'Plymouth Xmas 1986', its taken from someone's car and shows all the smaller shops in Cornwall St. It brought back tons of odd memories for me.

People supporting the asylum seekers talk about disguising themselves in public and being regularly harassed. The apparent appeasement of far right intimidation by the authorities has got totally out of hand.

The unaudited transfer of wealth from many to a relative few through care home fees has been extraordinary and unprecedented.

I've had one of these in the front garden and it's still flowering like mad. Looks very black and beautiful. Regular deadheading has kept it going great guns for months.

Natural regen zones should be created next to as many woodlands as possible, but planting may be helpful when no seed source exists nearby. While most tree species 'can' disperse up to' about 1.5km, the 'usual' dispersal distance is within 50-200m.

Yes. Labour would not get my vote today. Luckily I won't have to face the 'hold your nose' option to stop Reform - the Lib Dems are the biggest party in my ward. If they weren't, I couldn't vote for Labour as they demonize climate/Palestine protestors while failing to curb the fascist/racist mobs.

Referring to the 12% for whom leaving the EU has high importance- this is from a different survey which asked a different question. In the '55%' survey you just quoted, 39% of Britons think rejoining the EU should be a priority.

The '18 people per constituency' assumption is flawed because the figures/report you quote from are not from an MRP poll. The sample is a national online sample of several thousand adults, weighted by demographics, e.g age etc. - not a 'constituency by constituency' poll. /2

This is exactly what the term 'lies, damned lies and statistics' illustrates. It is so easy to misrepresent what data tells us. The '2 people in each constituency' conclusion is somewhat absurd. Why? Because it's a misrepresentation of what this poll actually did generating a standard stats error 1/

The Tory tactical vote could just be a de-facto Reform vote though couldn't it? I wouldn't put it past the Tories to gift them a coalition.

I think a referendum would be disastrous because it will cause a hyper-frothing rage in Brexiteers unlike anything we've ever seen and they will get very ugly. No, it should be a manifesto commitment at the next general election. Referendums are almost incompatible with representative democracy.

I'm encouraged by this. The danger is where the Tory preference is close with Lib dem / green / labour. We MUST assume the Tories would enter into a Reform coalition. Would-be Tory voters really need to see that the Tory vote is a de-facto Reform vote should Reform win the most seats overall.

The cost of renting is a scandal. Totally decoupled from earnings. There are 16 pages of houses to rent in Cornwall on one property site - only 4 pages of these are affordable to those on the mean income. Yet, the majority of households here earn considerably less than this. Why are we allowing it?

Why aren't these patients banned from the hospital for this abuse? They'd be banned from a pub FFS.
