Why are casks round? Well, there are a lot of good historical reasons about structural integrity and so on. But also, round things roll better. As beautifully demonstrated here.

Brewers Ed and Stew went back to Yakima with Charles Faram for the US hop harvest. They caught up with the Puterbaugh family, whose relationship with Oakham now stretches back generations. Plus they ate a lot of tacos and Stew demonstrated his beer pong prowess. So a successful trip all in all.

Heads up English hop fans! This year's Hopwalk green hop beer has been made with Harlequin, a fantastic new wave English hop that offers vibrant tropical and tree fruit flavours. Well worth getting those orders in, trade pals!

We were delighted to welcome Steve Wang from Urbrew, one of China's leading craft beer companies, to the brewery recently. He was brewing an Oolong ESB which will be available at the Wetherspoon autumn beer festival from 7th to 18th October.

There is still a whole week left to enjoy #CaskAleWeek. Even though it started four days ago. Cask ale has been a central pillar in our 33-year journey as a brewery. From the first brew of JHB in 1993 to the regular new seasonal cask recipes we now deliver every month of the year.

Our NZ pale, Mohawk, is out in the wild. Brewed by our Olly, it is made with experimental hop NZH106. Look for lime and passionfruit with a hint of white grape and pine. There is still some available at the brewery if trade friends want to get an order in.

Next week the wonderful St Albans Beer & Cider Festival returns to the Alban Arena and we'll have a brewery bar. There will be 13 Oakham beers on tap, including our core range, Mohawk, Cryptic, Darkness Falls and Krush on keg.

We're very pleased to have a suite of beers on offer at the Havelock Beer & Cider Festival, running 24th to 27th September. Our showing includes Interstate, Magic Carousel, Darkness Falls and the mighty Green Devil.

Cask aged Mompesson's Gold is available now. Contact orders@oakhamales.com to get your hands on this popular amber ale, named for the corrupt 17th century Commissioner of Inns who spuriously prosecuted over 3,320 inns, then was fined and sentenced to ride down the Strand backwards on his horse.

Citra makes an excellent pairing for the diverse flavours - salty, sweet, sour, spicy - of Thai food. Definitely a match worth experimenting with.

Trade pals, there is still some availability of our season hazy pale, Blurred. It's made with US hops Idaho 7, Krush and Comet for a burst of citrus, tropical and berry fruit flavours plus some distinctive herbal tones.
