On the bottom, a Twitch chat message containing the Morgan Freeman True... emote. On the top, a view of FontForge showing how it works. Several characters are overlaid on top of each other and colored to give the appearance of an image. This is how emoji actually works on Windows, by the way. It sounds stupid but your computer is doing this very thing, just with simpler shapes.
