Maryland was counting on these federal grants to modernize our unemployment insurance system and stop fraud. The Trump administration unlawfully terminated the funding mid-project. I’m co-leading a coalition of 14 states in filing a lawsuit for damages.

Head Start and Early Head Start served 7,255 Maryland children in 2025. Now, the federal government is proposing to eliminate critical protections. Requirements for early support for children with disabilities would be eliminated. Non-English instruction would be banned.

The administration weakened fuel economy standards for new cars and light trucks, which means drivers could pay more at the pump. NHTSA’s rollback violates federal law by failing to set fuel economy standards at the “maximum feasible” level, ignoring efficiency gains that have already been made.

The federal government is proposing a rule that could threaten to reduce Medicaid funding for states when they impose taxes or fees on health insurance companies. The proposal would also make other changes to the rules for Medicaid funding and impose impossible reporting obligations on the states.

Scammers stole $11.4 billion through cryptocurrency fraud in 2025 — a 22 percent increase from 2024. Congress is considering a bill that could weaken states' ability to stop crypto scams, including the ability of state attorneys general to crack down on scams and hold scammers accountable.

A federal court ordered ICE to follow federal law when making warrantless arrests. Immigration officers can only arrest without a warrant if they have probable cause to believe someone is unlawfully present and is likely to escape. The Trump administration is appealing that order.
