After three nights in Mount Isa, I catch the Greyhound bus to Winton. It's a bit of a quaint town with three pubs and nowhere else to get dinner. I learn a bit more than expected about the local soil and water conditions, and go on a tour to see its major sight. asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/winton

I catch my first train using my Queensland Rail pass, just 86 km down the tracks to Innisfail, where I spend two days waiting for the train to take me further. That makes it sound bad: it's not! asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/innisfail-...

Overheard as I eat my pizza, a dad explaining why his daughter can't have tiramisu: "You won't be able to sleep. And you'll want to party. You can't party on a Thursday night. Unless you're a University student." The daughter is all of about 6! They've had quite serious talks though: very cute.

Years ago, I worked with Sir John Henry: he was a Judge of the High Court. To be honest, I did not realise he was still around, as that was a long time ago. He was always a very kind Judge to work for, but some work I did for him was among the worst I ever turned in, because I was out of my depth.
