And especially when caffeine (including super high caffeine drinks/supplements) isn't even age restricted or anything!

In the US at least it stops being an e-bike when the speed limiter is removed (being classified as a motorcycle/moped/etc. instead, depending on specs and state). The laws on this just often aren't enforced, similarly to how many car/motorcycle laws aren't regularly enforced.

In the US at least the regulations do exist, removing the speed limiter turns it into a moped/motorcycle/etc. (depending on the state, specifications, etc.), they're just not often enforced (similar to how many of the laws for cars and motorcycles are also regularly broken without consequence)

Tangential, but any recommendations for resources for someone with a generally technical background (SWE w/ bachelors in CPE and math) but minimal AI/ML experience to get background knowledge for this sort of stuff?

It's especially telling that their takeaway from the fact that "richer countries have substantially more innovation, and their workers are much more economically productive" is that we should ignore suffering in poor countries, rather than try to turn more poor countries into rich countries

I think part of the issue here is that most university undergraduate "CS" programs are really programming/SWE training programs with a sprinkling of actual CS

Yeah, like, even if you ignore all of the details, "little mermaid retelling where she gets rejected by the prince, but then gets to try again in modern Japan, where she meets a guy who happens to look just like the prince and they fall in love and live happily ever after" is just…bad

The big safety thing to look for is whether the battery is UL rated (unfortunately the cheaper you go the less likely you are to find this). I'm pretty happy with my rad power ebike as an entry-level-but-not-too-much-corner-cutting option (the batteries in anything they're selling new are very safe,

Worth noting that unless you have hypertension you probably don't need to care that much about restricting your sodium intake, and there is some evidence that restricting it in people without hypertension can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes

Nyle Rodgers @nylerodgers.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
Absolutely. Relatedly, basically all claims of "planned obsolescence" I've seen boil down to some combination of meeting that consumer preference and genuine engineering limitations/trade-offs.

It usually means it's adapting something originally published as a light novel (especially isekai ones), which started doing the whole sentence-as-title thing to catch shoppers attention with only the book spine/title listing (and/or cargo-culting successful long-title LNs)

The handful of times I picked up something that was genuinely too "mature" for me I just went "meh, I'm not enjoying this" and stopped reading it.

Nyle Rodgers @nylerodgers.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
Yeah, I read tons of "for adults" novels as a kid and it was fine. There were some things that went over my head till I re-read them when I was older, but I think that getting comfortable with not always 100% understanding everything all the time made me better at learning new stuff in general.

magic based solely on the family they were born into) themselves. Coco getting adopted into an atelier is presented as coincidental/unorthodox enough that the brimmed caps just saw it as a surprise opportunity to get someone aligned with them on the inside, resulting in the sudden focus on Coco.

Yeah, my assumption has been that they gave out a bunch of magic books/wands to random non-magician kids who seemed interested in magic as a like, screening/recruitment thing, with the intention of training the ones who figure it out (and are likely to resent the status quo for excluding them from

You can still book through a travel agent though (and plenty of people do)? The change isn't that these services went away, but that customers were given the option to save money by doing without and many decided that was a trade off they liked.
000
Nyle Rodgers @nylerodgers.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Plus it often ignores that the changes also made things more affordable/accessible. Like, you can still hire a travel agent (and things like package trips through travel agencies are not uncommon), online booking just means that the barrier to DIY-ing it is low enough most people don't want to.

It's also complicated because it's a mix of things that are genuinely promising but not yet well studied (e.g. peptides) and things that are (as far as I can tell) complete BS (e.g. earthing)

Skyscrapers near airports are generally designed to be able to handle a plane accidentally flying into it (including the twin towers; they didn't survive 9/11 because the planes were going way faster than is typical at that altitude and bigger than most planes were when the towers were designed)

This is often paired with a view that once <insert chosen minority that supposedly controls the government/media> has been sufficiently removed from power and (violently) punished, "the people" will spontaneously switch to vocally agreeing with them on everything.

Nyle Rodgers @nylerodgers.bsky.social · 18/06/2026
I think they often frame it as their politics being radical relative to the current government/media viewpoint, but simultaneously supported by a silent majority of "the people", who are afraid to speak up due to the oppressive government/media.

chaperone/driver, and now they want to stop kids from socializing online too. Without someone actually building places (real or virtual) that they want to spend their time at, they're just gonna figure out how to sneak in to whatever places do exist. 2/2

Nyle Rodgers @nylerodgers.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
Also like, if you wanna ban kids from a bunch of places they want to be, you should probably be trying to figure out how to offer them an alternative they actually want? Like (in the US at least) we've made it impossible/illegal in many places for kids to leave the house without an adult 1/

I think a lot of it is just that a lot of people don't actually understand how stocks (or housing, national debt, data centers, inflation, etc.) work, and just kinda form opinions based on vibes/direction, and a lot of politicians focus on policies that focus group well but wouldn't work in response

From what I recall when I did a bunch of research before buying a hair dryer myself, the ion thing (sometimes labeled as "tourmaline", which is the material used for it) is real, and does help reduce frizz a bit, but unless frizz is an actual problem for you it's probably not important.

They seem better than sports betting sites in some ways (e.g. they won't issue a lifetime ban just because you bet strategically enough to consistently make money overall), but the main argument for them being "useful" (that they expose useful info) relies pretty heavily on insider leaks in practice
