Been called “The First Fan of #NewYorkCityFC” (chronologically speaking) I started organizing the Third Rail on Day One (5/21/2013), served as its 1st president (2014-15), & am still Member No. 0001. Proud to have coined the nickname “Pigeons” #DaleNewYork

David Soul as Rick and Hector Elizondo as Captain Renault in the 1983 TV version of “Casablanca”. Because yes, they actually made the prequel series once. And Netflix would *definitely* do it again.

Yes, he was a leading man in his younger days. A dashing man of action. Amazing he was able to have a second career as a comedian, and that second career so defines his legacy today. So much so that he leaned into it on his tombstone.

Well, it’s official. #NYCFC has a new Sporting Director. I like this hire, but let’s see what he does. Hoping he can mend fences with the Haak camp.

You have any favorite films that are absolutely perfect… except for one scene? Like the director makes one mistake that just holds the film back, or undercuts the message, or spoils the film? Just one scene in an otherwise perfect film you wish you could cut out forever and make everybody forget?
John Carpenter’s “The Thing” opens with the worst scene. Ugh. Christopher Guests‘s “A Mighty Wind” is such a marvelous movie, but it ends on an awful transphobic joke that comes out of nowhere and spoils the whole thing. Hal Ashby decided to run outtakes over the credits of “Being There” for some reason that I don’t understand. Star Peter Sellers thought it undermined the entire film (I agree) and BEGGED Ashby to take them out. I wish Ashby had listened, because Sellers is right. It’s a perfect movie if you turn it off when the credits start to roll.

Remember when the MLS badge was introduced, and we all customized it by putting things in that open space? Have to see if I still have those graphics somewhere. The league even got into the act with the MVP trophy.

Still kinda bugs me that #MLS does this team personalization with the Apple TV logo, when the league logo is just CRYING OUT for it instead. #NYCFC
“league announcement” graphic from NYCFC showing a row of jerseys with the Apple TV logo on the sleeves. This year teams customized the Apple TV logo, NYCFC puts a light blue and orange arc across it in a reflection of the club badge. Whereas the MLS logo still has this big open space just begging for team personalization.

I wonder what immediate impact wins and losses have on merchandise sales. Am I less likely to buy an #NYCFC tshirt today because I’m still smarting from Wednesday’s debacle? Would I be more likely to buy something if we had crushed them 4-0? I’m sure the league stores track this.

They are bedeviled by occasionally sloppy play and bad communication holding them back. We still have a couple pieces to fill in. Mostly it feels like they need some time to come together. With a couple signings and a little seasoning, they could be SCARY good. Just in time for the new stadium.

My favorite “Robert Redford movie that wasn’t” is Rosemary’s Baby. I love Cassavetes as a filmmaker, but he’s the wrong choice for the husband. Redford was apparently up for it at one point, and he would have been a MUCH better choice. Cassavetes plays the ending, Redford would have been a shock.

The players were issued cold weather gear with their numbers on them, for identification. Vince’s number was 1. I did say “during a game”.
Just as the players’ gear had their numbers on it, so too was Lombardi issued a number for his. Vince celebrating the Ice Bowl win. Check out the hat.

That’s why I said “generally”. There are wonderfully creative and groundbreaking sequels, just as there are remakes which match (or sometimes exceed) the original films.
1983 Al Pacino film Scarface2011 film True Grit (yes, better than the original). Soderburg’s film “Ocean’s 11” which eclipses the original in every single way. “Heat”, which is Michael Mann remaking his own television movie “LA Takedown” with a bigger budget and better cast.

Kind of tickled to find that Ben’s blue baseball cap in #FantasticFourFirstSteps is actually a Brooklyn Dodgers cap. Logo removed from trailer for… licensing? But at the same time irritated that they used an incorrect logo. I know, alt universe & all, but still wrong. uni-watch.com/2011/05/01/h...
Ben Grimm walking down the street. Caption reads “That’s not really something I say.” He’s wearing a blank blue baseball cap, meaning this is from the trailer, where they removed the Brooklyn Dodgers logo (presumably for licensing reasons).

And isn’t it kinda strange for a kid from the Lower East Side in the 60s to be a Brooklyn Dodgers fan? Even if, or maybe especially, if the Dodgers didn’t move out of Brooklyn in this alternate universe.
