My youngest child and I went on a quick trip around d Southern Alberta, taking in Writing on Stone provincial park, Waterton National Park, and Heads Smashed in Buffalo Jump. This province is pretty beautiful. #alberta

My 15 year old and I drove 2.5 hours one way to see this whooping crane. He insists he’s not a birder but I told him spending over six hours with your mom to maybe or maybe not see a specific bird makes you a birder. #birds

Some folks from elsewhere are surprised and amused to find out that there really is a place called “Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump”. There is, and you really must visit.

Made some tester mugs with owl sprigs and a chickadee. I glazed them in a rush so they’re a bit messy. I think I need to rework the great horned owl. Time to make some more. #birds

One of the “joys” of having a connective tissue disorder is unstable joints prone to strains and sprains. This is the second time I’ve sprained my ankle while birding. Fortunately it doesn’t seem as bad this time. #birding

Just spent two days with a physical geography class from my husband’s university in Jasper National Park. Las time I was here was four months after the 2024 fire that devastated the park. It’s fascinating and humbling seeing life regenerate after such devastation. @michaeldemoor.bsky.social

Long Tailed Ducks are considered rare around here but this spring they seem to be popping up all over the place. We saw these two this morning on Astotin Lake at Elk Island National Park. #birds

We decided not to go to the US this year and I’m an American citizen. We have a non binary kid, and my husband is an outspoken academic against the current US administration. I miss visiting my family and friends in Michigan but it just wasn’t safe for us.
