A thing that puzzles me -- I get that the Rationalist scene is apparently (1) very horny (2) extremely bad at consent Is it primarily straight? The vast majority of these stories seem to be about objectification of women by men! (pinging @segyges.bsky.social who, perhaps, knows)

There's a "medieval" SS13 subgenre -- set in crapsack Europe. Per Ratwood's rules: "Slavery exists as a commonplace practice within the setting, and characters should treat it as such. Unless your character is extremely forward-thinking, you should not act be in active opposition."

Did Waymo fuck up and kill somebody or something? Their routing algorithm has gone from "reasonable performance comparable to a human driver" to "so slow that literal walking is faster, with a tendency to drive in random directions for a long distance that has no apparent intended purpose."

One of the things I do when I'm not mentally well is write a manifesto decrying other people for their inferiority to me -- in particular, their stupidity and the pointlessness of their lives. I don't really like that I do this! I am having the impulse to do it and some difficulty stopping myself.

In tech I'm excited about: the Pydantic team recently released Monty, a sandboxed Python implementation with static type enforcement and savestates. Savestates as in "I can load arbitrary unplanned code into an object and keep it in a savegame." As in "I can implement backtracking and time travel."

Nasty, even sadistic things. But that's fine, as long as that's what Tom wants. Think of it. His actions. He's always asking for it. It's his partner's job to fulfill that need and Jerry knows that.

Yesterday's listening was the music of Mary Rodgers, by the way! Her work is lovely. But I look at Wikipedia and see -- she abruptly stopped composing because she thought she wasn't very good. A little more "bad" music wouldn't have hurt, in my opinion, but she died. Not like she can write it now.
