If you’re mad we didn’t endorse Mamdani- say so. Don’t make up lies saying we said to leave both off the ballot.

NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 16/06/2025
You very specifically stated we said to leave both off the ballot. In fact- we say the opposite: that a ballot needs to include one of them

That’s not what we recommended at all. We’d recommend reading our full statement before posting misinformation.

Zohran Mamdani (@ZohranKMamdani) receives an F, as the only candidate who opposes hiring more police officers. He places a greater emphasis on activist priorities over real solutions to deter crime and improve public safety in ways that benefit all communities.

NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Adrienne Adams (@AdrienneEAdams) earns a C. She’s pushed back on NYPD staffing cuts, stood for police accountability, and sued to block ICE at Rikers. However, her weak retail theft plan and lack of support for police on subways are serious concerns.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
However, while this scorecard is focused on candidates’ policies, we also believe that Cuomo’s history of sexual harassment and corruption allegations can not, and should not, be ignored. We will have more to say on this when we release our final recommendations.

NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Andrew Cuomo (@andrewcuomo) earns a B for his strong record as governor on public safety issues ranging from gun violence to addressing police misconduct. His mayoral platform also includes strong proposals, such as strengthening involuntary commitment criteria for cases with serious mental illness.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Whitney Tilson earns a B for his stances on hiring more cops, allowing judges to weigh “dangerousness” in bail decisions, and reforming the discovery process. However, we are disappointed in his support for reopening the ICE office at Rikers.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Scott Stringer earns a B for his long history of thoughtful stances on public safety issues, including advocating for stop-and-frisk reform. He’s recanted his previous stances on defunding the police, and is supportive of hiring more cops, and getting them back on the streets.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Brad Lander earns a B for his largely positive record on public safety issues, and we appreciate that he’s rethought his previous statements around “defunding the police”. He supports getting more cops back on the street while also addressing NYPD overtime abuse.

NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Zellnor Myrie earns an A because his public safety plan directly aligns with our New Liberal values, including hiring more police officers to make our city safer, while also working to hold them accountable through policies like ending qualified immunity.

Put simply, Mamdani’s economic policies are a threat to the long-term economic viability of NYC. His agenda lacks realistic funding and implementation plans and reflects a profound ignorance of economic trade-offs and consequences.
010
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Zohran Mamdani (@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social) earns an F for his destructive and unrealistic economic agenda. Before getting into our criticisms, we do want to acknowledge his support for street vendor and food truck deregulation - one of his few economic policies we support.
110
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Zellnor Myrie (@zellnor.bsky.social) earns a C, largely because he has not laid out a detailed city budget plan. He is open to inclusive economic development across the city, and his strong support for housing abundance indicates that he would be receptive to the broader abundance agenda.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Andrew Cuomo earns a C. Despite having a generally pro-growth record and approach to regulation and innovation that aligns with the New Liberals, his ethical controversies will make it difficult for him to build public trust and enact his economic agenda.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Adrienne Adams (@adrienne4thepeople.bsky.social) earns a C for her mixed record on City Council, including supporting the Citywide Hotels Text Amendment, and for an economic platform that lacks the clarity and specificity New Yorkers deserve from the next mayor of America’s largest city.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Whitney Tilson (@whitneyformayor.com) earns a B for his support of regulatory reform and fiscal responsibility. We appreciate his alignment with an abundance-oriented agenda, but are disappointed by his support for continuing restrictions on short-term rentals.
110
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Scott Stringer (@scottstringernyc.bsky.social) earns a B for his support of innovation & key industries in the city, and his strong record on budget transparency. While we have concerns about some of his past economic views, his current priorities are increasingly aligned with our values.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Brad Lander (@bradlander.bsky.social) earns a B on our economy scorecard for his commitment to an abundance-oriented economic agenda and his experience as a public finance manager. However, we strongly disapprove of his support for continuing restrictions on short-term rentals.

NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Our next round of grades for our 2025 NYC Mayoral scorecard takes a look at the economic policies of each candidate! We’ve evaluated each candidate’s economic vision for our city, taking into account their economic record and proposed policies.
110
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Mamdani’s (@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social) earns an F as his most noteworthy policy is to fund free CUNY by taxing Columbia and NYU, two of the most integral and socially beneficial institutions in NYC. He would also abandon the SHSAT as the sole admissions criterion to specialized public HS.
010
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Adrienne Adams (@adrienne4thepeople.bsky.social) earns a D. She’s championed positive education programs like the CUNY Reconnect program. However, her campaign has been very light on policy proposals and she’d abandon the use of SHSAT as the sole criterion for admissions to specialized public HS.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Stringer (@scottstringernyc.bsky.social) earns a C He would expand after school programs at all public schools. Stringer’s proposals also address how policy goals can be funded. However, his plan is focused on extending child care rather than improving the quality of education provided.
100
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Cuomo earns a B with his solid record that includes establishing the Excelsior College Scholarship for families earning <$125k & funding universal Pre-K in NYC. He also has a solid plan that includes fully funding 3-K, & focusing on high-quality modern curricula.
200
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Brad Lander (@bradlander.bsky.social) earned a B for Education. As Comptroller, Lander fought against Mayor Adams’ education budget cuts. His robust and detailed educational plan would fully fund 3-K and focus on CUNY, STEAM, technical education, mental health, arts, and civics.
110
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Myrie (@zellnor.bsky.social) earns a B as he would expand universal after-school from 3-K through 12th grade until 6pm. He also co-sponsored a New Deal for CUNY bill in the State Senate which waives all tuition, and hires more teachers, mental health professionals, and academic advisors.
110
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Tilson (@whitneyformayor.com) earns an A as his policy stands above the rest in improving outcomes by enacting structural changes & increased accountability. He’d up pay for high performing teachers, systematize proven curricula, hire high-impact tutors, & expand charter schools.
110
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 12/06/2025
Our third round of grades for our 2025 NYC Mayoral scorecard are the Education grades for each candidate! We’ve evaluated the platform and actions of each candidate on issues for education:
120
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025
Adrienne Adams (@adrienne4thepeople.bsky.social) earns a D. She’s failed to use her role to advance meaningful transit improvement, and has actively undermined micro-transit methods such as E-bikes while on the city council.
020
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025
Andrew Cuomo earns a D for his lackluster record of leadership on transit as governor, including a failure to commit to maintenance of large projects and the “summer of hell” under his tenure. Additionally, his support for congestion pricing has been inconsistent.
220
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025
Zohran Mamdani (@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social) earns a B for his record of support for e-bike rebates, expanded bus lanes and the QueensLink. His signature transit policy of free buses, however, is misguided and costly.
141
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025
Whitney Tilson (@whitneyformayor.com) earns a B for his support of congestion pricing, bus lanes, and improved street safety. However, we have concerns about his support for a free subway fare pilot program, an expensive gimmick.
120
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025
Scott Stringer (@scottstringernyc.bsky.social) earns an A as an early supporter of the Interborough Express and for his long record of support for bus lanes. He’s also shown support for micro-transit options, including e-bikes.
110
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025
Zellnor Myrie (@zellnor.bsky.social) earns an A for his support for expanded bus lanes and improved cyclist safety. He also stood out for his sponsorship of legislation in the state legislature to improve access to e-bikes and e-scooters.
120
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025
Brad Lander (@bradlander.bsky.social) earns an A on our transit scorecard for his leadership on congestion pricing, and for his strong and consistent support for a wide variety of transit options, including bus lanes and E-bikes.
120
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 11/06/2025

191
NYC New Liberals @nycnewliberals.org · 10/06/2025
Andrew Cuomo earns an F for his role in actively worsening the housing crisis as Governor of NYS, including by passing HSTPA in 2019. While he’s alluded to supply-oriented solutions, in reality, he’s opposed rezoning & even opposed affordable senior housing.
