Light pollution contributes to nearly a quarter million migratory birds dying annually from collisions with NYC buildings. The fix is simple: turn #LightsOut Rally with us at City Hall Mon, 6/29 at 10am in support of #LightsOutNYC legislation. RSVP: nycbirdalliance.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/n...
A graphic showing a Lights Out Rally for years ago with a opaque text box above it. The following words appear, from top to bottom: "YOU’RE INVITED!", "LIGHTS OUT
RALLY", "STEPS OF CITY HALL", "Monday, June 29 at 10am", "Join us as we call on City Council to make NYC more bird-friendly and healthier for NYers".

Help NYC's Black-crowned Night Herons survive, Knicks in 5! 🏀🐦💙🧡 Our scientists discovered these birds could vanish from our harbor by 2037 without conservation action. If you haven't yet, please sign this petition demanding protections for them across NY. 📣 nycbirdalliance.org/bcnh-petition

Based on 40+ years of nesting data, NYC Bird Alliance scientists have discovered that the Black-crowned Night Heron is facing perilous decline, with local populations falling 55% in 22 years. Without action, these birds could disappear as soon as 2037. The good news? We can save this bird. (🧵1/2)
A Black-crowned Night Heron perches on an upright piece of wood in front of a serene green background, presumably out of focus flora. In alarming and bold white text, hovering above the bird, is the year “2037”. Below that is a smaller text: “This bird could vanish from New York City within 11 years, unless we act.” The urgent text, paired with the calm nature of the bird peering to the right, demands urgent action. The NYC Bird Alliance logo sits in the lower right corner of the graphic.

Thrilled to see Red-Tailed Hawks in the @nytimes.com! Pale Male’s arrival in Central Park over 3 decades ago gave rise to a whole generation of Red-Tails. When his nest was removed in 2004, New Yorkers rallied behind him, leading to the nest being restored – and Pale Male’s return. 🔗 Link in bio
A screen shot of The New York Times "New York Today" e-newsletter from May 20, 2026 by James Barron. The lead story features the story of Octavia, the last mate of iconic Red-tailed Hawk "Pale Male." The article begins with an image of two hawks in a nest atop the 927 Fifth Avenue building, where Pale Male originally nested. Readers can then see the first sentence of the article: "So Pale Male's ex has taken up with a younger mate, and there's at least one little one."
