That said, I can't wait to get to know the PPE community in the US—a world I've admired from afar but never been part of until now. And at Purdue itself, I can’t wait to make new friendships, be a valuable colleague, and play a meaningful role in the education of my students.

All this means that my life in Europe will soon be coming to an end. This really is bittersweet. It would be a mug’s game to try and sum up my love for Amsterdam and what this city has given me. I'm going to miss it all terribly. I may be Indian, but over the years I have become an Amsterdammer.

A professional update that also has personal consequences! I’ve accepted a tenure-track AP position in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Purdue University! I feel incredibly lucky, grateful, and excited for this opportunity to keep doing what I love.

A corollary to your point: whatever one’s own specialization is in, it’s possible to attend any philosophy talk and understand as well as engage with the talk in a meaningful way. This is not true in other academic disciplines, where sub-disciplinary norms and boundaries are well established.
