BAGIS statement on the ruling of the Supreme Court
April 2025
BAGIS are concerned by the Supreme Court ruling that the definition of “woman” in the Equality Act 2010, is limited to “biological women” and does not include trans women with a Gender Recognition Certificate.

While the ruling makes clear that transgender people remain protected by the Equality Act 2010, this ruling has ethical implications that undermine trans equality and has caused a significant amount of fear and distress to an already marginalised community.

The ruling considers biological sex as binary and immutable, and repeatedly refers to trans women as biologically male. This view of sex is not supported in the medical literature. Additionally, for those who have undergone medical transition, this is scientifically and medically inaccurate, as well as disrespectful of trans identities. Sexed biological characteristics are bimodal not binary. The ruling refers repeatedly to ‘certified sex’ as a distinct category when in reality all sex assigned at birth is certified, as it relies on bodily observation not investigation and can be misattributed.

Although we await further expert interpretation of the ruling, we fear it sets a precedent that could undermine the privacy, safety and human rights of trans people in the UK. We urge organisations against any rapid changes to policy until the ruling is more fully understood. We encourage our members and patients affected by the ruling to seek support if needed.

Finally, we would observe that equality is not a zero sum game, societies and institutions that promote the rights of disadvantaged and minority groups generally, expand the rights and freedoms of us all.

To any trans person reading this: you are loved and you deserve to be loved. Those who disagree are just a loud minority, and history will not view them favourably. Stay strong 💕

This is Avis, my BG3/D&D character and my hyperfixation for the last year 🗡️🖤 She's a Dark Urge from and "tiefling" warlock with Archfey contract. By the end of the game's story, she is freed from Bhaal's influence and sets off to find her patron in the Feywald [ #dnd #bg3 #oc #art ]

you can love a character and still admit they’re wrong. i love gale dekarios but can acknowledge his flaws (none) and can hold him accountable for his wrongdoings (he’s never done anything wrong in his life) and call him out for his actions (which are always correct).

The Game Boy Advance SP design is perfect, not just because it's very portable, but because its flip phone style means that if you're not doing well at Pokémon Fire Red or whatever, you can just angrily hang up on it.

Professor Gale Dekarios A.U. where he's an Occult History professor who has an adorable cat, a penchant for turtlenecks and a horrid ex. Can you help mend his broken heart? 🥹 Or alternatively, can Astarion, depending on what fanfics you indulge in 😌 #BG3 #Baldursgate3 #GaleDekarios #Gale #fanart

gale's folly #bg3

A digital illustration of the character Gale Dekarios from the video game Baldur's Gate 3. Gale is drawn from his stomach up, at a three-fourths angle, facing right. He is leaning slightly forward. His hair flows forward and toward the right of the illustration. Both of Gale's hands are raised up in front of his chest, with his palms open toward it, as if though he's trying to contain the force of the malevolent orb of magic trapped in his chest. At the centre of Gale's chest is a dark purple circle, which represents the orb. The circle is surrounded by jagged streaks of light purple that extend outward all the way to the edges of the illustration. At their ends, these streaks become darker shades of purple. Some streaks pass through Gale's fingers, showing that he is unable to stop the orb's destructive power. Just below Gale's neck, some of the purple streaks form spectral fangs. A matching set of fangs is located just under his chest. These ghastly purple jaws represent the demonic nature of the orb. Gale's expression is mortified. His teeth are bared and clenched tightly. Dark purple veins climb up his left cheek and around his left eye. His left eye glows neon purple. Sweat drips down his right cheek. The purple glow of the orb illuminates Gale's entire body, except for portions of his hair, which instead reflect the sickly neon green of the background. Mostly cool tones of purple are used to colour Gale, except for the iris of his left eye, which is coloured with warmer purples. The artist has taken creative liberties with Gale's design and given him more body hair on his chest and arms, and well as more body fat. The artist's signature, "BUMBLEBI!" is written in light purple, at the bottom right of the illustration.
