Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 08/07/2025Our nervous systems are not meant to cope with the current situation. Reactions like anger & rage, numbness or apathy, or feeling stuck and not knowing what to do are biologically normal ways that our bodies try to protect us. Be gentle with yourself, and be intentional with finding moments of joy. 031
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 31/05/2025Beautiful pictures. So sorry for your loss! 010
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 18/03/2025Be gentle with yourself. What we are living through is not normal! We can't expect to function/cope the way we used to. Give yourself permission to do less. 1161
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 12/03/2025The world is a challenging place, especially right now. If all you're managing to do is survive, it's enough. Celebrate making it through the day and focus on the next small step forward. Sending love! 040
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 03/03/2025With everything going on in the world, it's easy to feel like joy & pleasure are wrong. Like having fun somehow means you don't care about what others are going through. Nothing could be further from the truth. Joy, love, playfulness, fun etc are a crucial part of healing both ourselves & our world. 040
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 24/02/2025I would shine it on their inner child and unfulfilled needs, but I would also shine it on their dreams and things that bring them joy. Important to look at both! 110
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 24/02/2025It's easy to feel helpless right now or that anything you can do isn't enough to change anything so why bother, but your actions DO matter. Remember, small positive actions from a large number of people adds up to a big positive change. 030
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 23/02/2025If you're feeling overwhelmed by world news, you're certainly not alone. Remember to take care of yourself by limiting your exposure to social media and the news, focusing on the things that are within your control and taking the time for rest and self care. 050
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 13/01/2025My son and I loved the movie but he says the books are better! ❤️ 040
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 03/01/2025New Year resolutions often fail because big changes can feel threatening to your nervous system. Try focusing on smaller changes that you can build on to create good habits. If there's something you want to change, start by working on it 5-10 mins a day and build up as you're able. 081
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 24/12/2024Happy Holidays! Sending love to all, especially those for whom the holidays are a challenging time. ❤️ 070

Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Being a "people pleaser" is not an identity. It's a trauma response. It's not who you are, it's what you've learned to do to protect yourself. With support, it can be unlearned to help you find your authentic self. #trauma #mentalhealth 150
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 07/12/2024If you're feeling like you have too many balls in the air and are overwhelmed, drop the balls that will bounce (housework, unnecessary outings, kids' activities etc.). You can pick them up again later. It's important to prioritize your #mentalhealth 160
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 06/12/2024It's important to recognize the difference between emotions, thoughts and behaviors when talking about #mentalhealth. We don't have control over our emotions, but we do have control over our thoughts and actions. Learning how to shift our thoughts & actions is a crucial part of #healing 061
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 04/12/2024Curiosity is a wonderful tool on the path to #healing. Getting curious about our feelings helps us create the space to move through them. #mentalhealth 030
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 03/12/2024Bluesky is a good example of what we need in society as a whole. Science, collaboration, community building, friendly and respectful discussion and disagreement and shuttering of hate and conspiracy theories. 050
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 03/12/2024Great article! My son has POTS and one other potential symptom is blood sugar dysregulation. He has issues with high and low sugars but it took ages for the Dr's to believe him because the patterns are unusual. So many accusations of faking, even with monitoring!! So frustrating. 000
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 03/12/2024The focus on Gay and Trans people is simply a convenient way to stir up hate and controversy and keep people's attention off of the other things the government is doing. It's a shame so many people fall for it. 020
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Rest without guilt. It's a crucial part of self care and #healing. 191
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 01/12/2024In a healthier world, individual resilience would come naturally. The way the term is used at the moment is usually to mean learning to live with stress and trauma that is way beyond what is healthy or what our bodies can handle, in order to benefit a society that doesn't value us. 010

Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 27/11/2024Infuriating and so harmful. Guidelines like these are why rare or uncommon conditions take on average 25-30 years to diagnose. 150
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Individual resilience is not something we should be working towards. Rather, the goal should be a healthy society where resilience is not a necessity. #trauma #mentalhealth 1359
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Pain is complicated. It triggers the fight/flight/freeze response which can make pain even worse. It's a tough cycle to break. I agree with you that the ableism in our society is an important contributing factor that needs to change. 010
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 26/11/2024An important thing to understand about our nervous systems is that they don't like change. We prefer what is familiar, even if it is unhealthy, because it is predictable (and therefore easier to respond to keep us safe). This is why sudden big changes can hinder rather than help in healing. 151
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Emotions are signals from our bodies whereas I feel "mood" is more of a social construct in a society with low emotional intelligence. People who are in a "bad mood" often don't know how to move through more uncomfortable emotions, or are having a normal reaction to the world we currently live in. 110

Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 21/11/2024Positivity can become toxic when it involves suppressing so called "negative" emotions. You can't be your authentic self when you're ignoring the reality of your emotions. (3/3) #healing #mentalhealth 010
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 21/11/2024Suppressing our "negative" emotions can result in an inability to create positive change in our lives. How can we create positive change when we don't know what's wrong? Both "positive" and "negative" emotions are important to pay attention to. (2/3) 100
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 21/11/2024Emotions are not positive or negative. All emotions are important signals about what is going on in our body and our environment. So called "negative" emotions let us know when a boundary has been crossed, our reality doesn't match our goals, we've been witness to an injustice etc. (1/3) 130
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 20/11/2024It's OK to love your baby but hate the way they came into the world. It doesn't make you a bad parent. Difficult birth experiences need to be acknowledged & processed. You're grieving the loss of your birth as you pictured it. #birthtrauma #mentalhealth 020
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 20/11/2024For years I had an amazing family doctor and I still miss her care. One of my favourite things about her was her willingness to say "I don't know but I'll find out" when she didn't know the answer to one of my questions. #MedSky #traumainformedcare 150
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 17/11/2024Trauma informed care has nothing to do with knowing what trauma someone has been through. It is understanding the responses that trauma can cause and creating a safe environment, and being a safe person, so that those responses are not triggered. #MedSky 1121

Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 17/11/2024There are no quick fixes when it comes to healing. #Healing from #trauma is a journey with a lot of ups and downs. It takes time, practice and patience. It can be uncomfortable at times but the lasting change and discovery of your authentic self is worth it. 020
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 16/11/2024I believe a big part of the problem is that true kindness requires emotional intelligence. It requires the ability to be kind to yourself first, to have the ability to handle conflict and differences of opinion in a healthy and productive way. Unfortunately that is not often taught or modeled. 061
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 15/11/2024#Trauma happens when the nervous system gets overwhelmed. It's not the event it's how the body responds, which depends on things like a person's capacity, support system and environment. This is why the same event may be traumatic for one person and not for another. 030
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 15/11/2024When #nurses & other healthcare providers say they are burned out, they don't mean they're tired & need a day off. Their bodies are in a state of collapse from repetitive #trauma. They need fair pay, #paidsickdays & adequate mental and physical health supports. 170
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Tuning into your senses and finding the things that make you feel good also helps you develop coping strategies by teaching you the things you can turn to when you're feeling overwhelmed (Fuzzy blankets, warm drinks, cute animal pictures, loud music, whatever it might be for you!). (6/6) 030
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 15/11/2024The goal of tuning into your senses is to help you start to learn how to get out of your head and back into your body. It can feel uncomfortable at first but gets easier with practice and helps set the stage for learning to feel your emotions. (5/6) 130
Fleur Bickford @nurturinghealing.bsky.social · 15/11/2024When you've spent years pushing your feelings away, learning to tune into them and move through them is challenging. A great place to start is by practising tuning into your senses. Focus on what you can see, hear, smell, feel and taste and how your body responds. (4/6) 110
