I'm just here to spread joy & maple syrup For the record tapping my maples and making my own sugar officially makes me the real deal sugar daddy, a part of the inclusive 219* club. Pancakes are going to be so good!
Final step of making maple syrup. Bringing the sap to 219* is where the magic happens turning tree sap into a Brix sugar % of 66-67
In short deliciousness

I decided to build a greenhouse inside a greenhouse. It’s a work in progress. In this space I have a heated germination table and plenty of space to include shelves. With it being smaller than the larger unheated greenhouse which is made of plastic, this one being glass should hold the heat well.
This is a 20’x20’ glass greenhouse inside a 35’x100’ poly greenhouse, plan on using it as a season extender and germinating hut

It’s that time of year when I feel like a doctor of some sorts of witchery,, thank you glorious Maple. Your sugary sap will be delicious on pancakes. Interesting fact witchery also means compelling power exercised by beauty, eloquence, or other attractive or fascinating qualities..huh

Tap, tap, tap It’s so exciting to haul a harvest out of the forest, gotta give thanks to the maples and the Indigenous people for figuring this out.

Woodland friend greeted me this morning while doing barn chores. It had killed a rather large rabbit behind the chicken coop, couldn’t carry it away, so was waiting patiently for me to pass so it could finish its breakfast.

Toadally awesome to find this one hanging around the hayfield this afternoon. Actually it’s not a toad, it’s a tree frog. I was planning on telling a frog joke but you have to be very careful when you tell them, the last person I told one to.. croaked.

Well owl be damned! The fencing project inspector showed up again today. It gave me a long hard look straight in the eyes, and I’m pretty certain as it flew away it said… owl be back!

Seed drill 🤠 It makes the most beautiful geometric pattern in the field. Soil is amazing and needs to be protected, cared for, its alive! Planted some hay, fodder for the future. Cost a bunch of coin in seed, fuel and equipment. A farmer’s wish it will all take and maybe some rain would help.

What love of looks like. Set it free, celebrate all things, doesn’t matter how small. The micro moment, matter. With the gas station attendant, your neighbour, your family keep love at root of all things and you too will be free.

Switched to round bales until the baler broke. Now back to squares Let me tell ya rounds are so much easier. You get approx 14 small squares per round bale and the tractor does all the lifting vs. Hand bombing squares on/off the trailer and stacking into the mow. I work by myself so efficiency is key

NU_OnTheFarm @nuonthefarm.bsky.social · 16/06/2025
Was able to get 300 small squares off the field, just need to put them up into the hay mow before the next rain. Still have 36 acres to go or call it 3000 more bales then we should have enough to feed the critters.

One of the main events.. Hay season ‘25 has arrived. It’s a high stakes operation as it feeds all the cows, horses and goats on our farm for another 365 So many variables like weather, equipment & crop failures, rental/land owner agreements, time, money and all the things.. Gotta love farming!

My farrier told me my horseshoe was hung upside down, and if I were to leave it that way my luck would run out So I took it down and hung it the other way 2 days later I find a four leaf clover. Also my farrier just might be a wizard Best of luck 🍀

Instead of pesticides, herbicides the disc is pretty kick ass on knocking the weeds back. Every couples days just drive around the fields scratching the surface I’m preparing this field for seeding down some hay to feed the critters This is neighbouring land I rent Trying to plan for the future

Permaculture best practice question I’m wanting to plant sacrificial plants or intercropping my squash Stink beatles destroy my last few seasons The idea behind trap plants is to create a diversion or sacrificial area where pests are drawn in hopes they leave the squash alone Any ideas what works?

I got a bad case of black knot, but nowhere near as bad a my neighbours property. She gave me permission to cut it all down. It’s totally where the problem started that has been affecting my trees. Well not anymore! A couple cans of gas a chainsaw and a hours work should help protect my trees

I struggle with identifying as a farmer, probably because I am also the electrician, plumber, mechanic, arborist, biologist, botanist, entomologist sometimes even a doula. There must be 45 other things not listed here. We will see what hat I’ll wear tomorrow. #homestead life gotta love it!

I hate doing that, but has to be done
