Does your team have any thoughts around the possible effects of changes to the mail-in ballot process? It's stuff like this which keeps my uncertainty high. apnews.com/article/trum...

Supreme Court sides with Trump administration on mail voting restrictions ahead of midterms
The Supreme Court’s conservative majority didn’t decide the legality of Trump’s order, instead ruling that states who sued did not have the legal right to challenge it.

Last year, my team shipped a Swift rewrite of Apple's TrueType hinting interpreter. The new code is strictly memory safe, relentlessly tested, and faster than the C code it replaced. This year, it is my pleasure to ship it for a second time—now as an open source package—and to share our experience!

I haven't added Clipper to my phone because my technology is always broken but I guess "everyone else's technology is always broken" would have been just as good an argument

Unfortunately that belief is basically shared by their audience.

> Very excited to watch the Pats in the Superbowl this year!! I will be switching to the Turning Point halftime show then back for the 2nd half. Go Pats!

Wait what is this GFM psychology nonsense, what's the actual amount that gets you there?
GoFundMe screenshot showing goal history moving automatically from $500 to $1300 as donations come in, with an info popover that says "To help the organizer reach their goal, we start them at a lower goal and adjust it as donations come in."

everything must go
A chaotic mixture of bare femme mannequins—three wooden top halfs deep in thought, flanked by plastic bodies on one side and various shades of torsos, running figures, and upside-down bottom halfs on the other.Just the butt, its more suggestive side getting a glance from a passerby. Moments earlier the elder child was poking at the whole row, saying "penis, butt, penis, butt, penis, butt" as he pointed out their anatomy.

Also: there is a tiny anus for… drainage?two columns of "kids mannequins", one model about the size of a five year old and the other larger. A real five year old whispers into the ear of the frontmost model. Two busts on a table with half a dozen feet on a platform behind. One of the busts has a sale sign taped to its forehead, covering the face.

scenes from bart
the view towards the city from the inbound platform at the Rockridge bart station during a particularly dramatic sunset with wispy cloudsLooking over a ~30% occupied parking lot from under a raised freeway + BART line. Lights shining down from the frontsides of the overpass columns. In the distance, the city skyline peeks through from between the tracks. Evening light, developed in high contrast black and white. On the opposite side of the station, someone sitting on a full width bench scrolls on their phone while, through the bright window behind then, the top half of Bliss dances.People waiting in shadow for a train to arrive while the world burns bright outside. Ceiling and floor texture emphasis. West Dublin/Pleasanton BART.

I’m a knitter and web designer, and I learned Swift so I could make a ruler and row counting app for my projects. It’s called Fiber Friend and I’m proud of it 🥰 fiberfriend.app

wrt Democratic Party reputation, is there anyone attempting to measure the effects of duress voting? As in, "the democratic party sucks but they're better than the alternative"?

#NoKings protest at Valley Forge, PA
Washington at Valley Forge, painting c. 1911 by Edward Percy Moran.

Washington sits on horseback with soldiers disposed in various tasks around him. Log structures sit in the background behind an American flag, raised high.

My wallet fell out of my pocket this morning and I didn't notice until I got back to my motorcycle and noticed it on the ground *under my kickstand*. Impossible odds.

I'll celebrate its arrival, but for now I'm waiting on the email MagCloud supposedly sent to activate my account. While we're here, the link to the book on klophoto.com/about.php seems to point to a domain that's, uh, not the same anymore, which was why I asked.

I like how Shopify (and some others) do it, generally all I need to type are the numbers and first few letters of my street and their autocomplete is primed to fill out the rest. Probably not as good for people who live on Second St though.

I’ve always loved the vibe of classic square-headlight Kawasakis. Nothing wears green better, and this ‘97-00 ZRX1100 looks especially good with the golden state as a backdrop.
A ZRX1100 in Kawasaki green parked on the edge of a road in front of some lightly shrubbed California foothills, just turning gold as the season changes from spring to summer.

like, this is transparently the inverse play of "save the children"—"protecting" a beloved group that can't speak for themselves and creating a bogeyman out of a group that most voters don't have any direct exposure to (and can be made to fear) both cross the aisle pretty easily 😑

In my first 30 years I moved 40 times, did I really live at any of those places? Do the earlier ones count more since they were a bigger percentage of my life? Does anything really matter? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great question, but I don't see how it could be any other way or it would be possible to transmit information FTL by constructing a binary code (of resolved vs not particles) at an agreed-upon time.

my understanding is you can't see the result of the coin flip (or know that it's been flipped) without causing observation effects yourself, so the timing of the other party's observation can't be clocked

Invite trees are a powerful moderation tool for admins, but arbitrary reaction emojis are a powerful moderation tool for the people. Why are we still settling for stars/hearts in this day and age?

And of course they forcibly twist the discourse from "do your job or admit you can't" to just "resign" in the process.

Both. The invite tree accountability makes people more judicious about bringing in solid people, the early suspensions of bad accounts increased trust/confidence about commitment to safety, and the smaller community feels safer too. I do get nervous for #s going up & harassment campaigns starting
