Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Studt after study has established the health effects of radiation exposure - but now the Trump administration wants to roll back the current (inadequate) regulations. Will the new series of healthstudies from Harvard create a turning point - or just be ignored like these before. 011
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 05/06/2026Great news! Now let’s do the Nuclear Moratorium Bill too. 011
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 04/06/2026“New Yorkers deserve to have an assessment done before embarking on five reactors estimated to cost $20 billion each,” said New York Senate Energy Committee Chairman Kevin Parker. “It is what any business or government would insist on doing for a multi-billion dollar project.” Pass the Moratorium! 020

Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 04/06/2026We’re down to the last days of the New York State legislative session & this is probably the MOST important Bill for the environment! These nuclear plants would cost $100 BILLION & take 10 to 15 years to build We could build MULTIPLE times the solar & storage in 2 years instead Pause nuclear now. 141
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 04/06/2026We’re down to the last day for the New York state legislature The state’s Budget Bill hollowed out our landmark climate law (the CLCPA) and many environmental Bills are still waiting to even be considered Call your legislators to pass the Datacenter Moratorium & the Nuclear Moratorium Bills now! 000
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 04/06/2026Yes! Based on the costs of the only 2 nuclear plants built in the US in 30 years, each of the 5 new plants proposed for NY would cost $20 BILLION dollars & take 10 to 20 years to build Solar + storage would be a fraction of the cost and can be implemented in about 2 years Everyone can do the math! 000
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Nuclear waste is basically forever. It’s worst when it’s present after a disaster like Fukushima - but poses an ongoing threat at every nuclear reactor for hundreds of thousands of years We are contaminating our world not just for our lifetimes, but for the lifetimes of our grandchildren and beyond 121
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 22/02/2026This is just one of many studies over the years that show a relationship between nuclear plants & cancer It’s important to note that cancer is not the only health risk involved. Cardiac issues, infant mortality and more are linked to these dangerous radioactive facilities! youtu.be/JEy16UoOIFY?...youtu.beForums for a Nuclear-Free New York - Symposium for Safe and Affordable EnergyYouTube video by GrassrootsEnvEd 021
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 18/02/2026While the article focuses on international reporting, we have a problem here in the US as well: rooftop solar is counted as ‘demand reduction’ not as energy generation. But of course it DOES generate electricity and transmits it to the user very efficiently without adding any strain to the grid! 022
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 18/02/2026Thanks so much for posting this. Now I have a convenient link to explain the problem instead of trying to fit all the info in a character-limited post! 000

Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 18/02/2026Like battery storage, costs could come down to make them a viable ‘add-on’ for data centers’ etc heavily concentrated demand I any case they seems preferable to newly proposed ‘Deep Fission’ drill holes with nuclear reactors at the bottom (that have DOE support) No fuel cost or radioactive waste! 111
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 18/02/2026I hope only ‘closed loop’ geothermal will be considered for most areas. And of course geological stability must be considered. This technology could be a win/win by preserving fossil fuel jobs and equipment - but it needs to avoid a number of that industry’s problems while avoiding its emissions! 131
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 18/02/2026Counting rooftop solar as a reduction in demand rather than as a generating capacity hides its true benefits. But of course that might be the whole point. 010

Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 29/12/2025It would be nice if we just had enough money to fight them in court. We need to document every threat to our environment and be ready to reverse those asap under the next administration. In the meantime, see you all out in the streets! 020
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 29/12/2025Wishing the same for you and your family🌟 2026 is going to be another challenging year for the environment - but it’s great to have the privilege of working with so many wonderful people like YOU! 110
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 29/12/2025Under any reasonable Federal government, the NY climate goals would align with fiduciary considerations Accelerating movement to wind, solar & storage would leave fossil fuel companies with reduced revenues & on the hook for stranded assets Hopefully 2026 elections will change the Trustees’s minds 010
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 29/12/2025Hochul is trying to have it both ways by signing this important environmental legislation but postponing its effect until after the election. Will that make fossil fuel donors happy while defusing a potential campaign issue? Unless we’re paying attention: probably. 010

Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 22/11/2025Neither SMRs nor a full-size nuke plant (like the one Gov Hochul has instructed the NY Power Authority to build) will help NY’s climate efforts or affordability crisis Nuclear plants are the MOST expensive way to produce electricity & a 10-15 year timeline = 8+ additional years of greenhouse gases! 031
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 22/11/2025Nor will a full-size nuke plant like the one Gov Hochul has instructed the NY Power Authority to build! Nuclear plants are the MOST expensive way to produce electricity - and their 10-15 year implementation time means 8+ additional years of greenhouse gas for the nuclear option compared to solar! 041
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 22/11/2025The main purpose for ‘carbon capture’ - beyond obtaining subsidies - is to enable the continuation of fossil fuel production while pretending to address climate change. Oh - and did they mention that much of that captured carbon is used to produce MORE fossil fuels? 163
Nancy S Vann @nsvann.bsky.social · 22/11/2025If only post-menopausal women were valued in society . . .
