Well, what do we have here? You must be a new arrival. Let me guess. The Duskbloods Network Test, right? Well, you're not the first. But there's no game server here. You'd have done better to rot in bed...But, too late now.
It's Crestfallen Warrior from DS1. This post is his intro dialog humorously updated to reference The Duskbloods Network Test.

Yeah no interminable get equipped cutscenes, and Boobeam Trap is just three boobeams on a wall. It's very straightforward and just about timing jumps over their shots and shooting them as you come back down. If you'll forgive some blurry images.
Boobeam Trap boss from Mega Man 2 watch version. Three Boobeams are mounted on a wall opposite Mega Man.The same Boobeams from the prior image have shot at the same time and the projectiles are about to hit Mega Man.

Beat Mega Man 2 Watch today lol. It was a pretty fun adaptation. The platforming felt fine, tho the couple swipe-to-turn segments were finicky. Boss fights were still about timing and pattern recognition, but I missed boss weapons and weaknesses.
The ending cutscene of Mega Man 2 where Dr Wiley is on his knees apologizing to Mega Man. It's being shown on a watch attached to a hairy arm.
The Mega Man MyPlay Watch "stage select" watchface that has a grid with robot masters like the Mega Man 2 stage select screen. At the bottom it shows the time (22:38) the date (06/23) and the amount of battery remaining. My high score for Mega Man Arcade Mode on the MyPlay Watch: 11,360.

Love to have a well-made indie game that offers some meat and some challenge without being the longest and most difficult game I've ever played. Mina really nails offering up some challenge while still always feeling achievable.

Here this one's for all the 90 Day Fiance / The Simpsons fans.
It's four panels from the Simpsons episode with Poochie. The scene where they introduce the character of Roy to mirror the situation in itchy & scratchy.

Except it's been updated to include Cortney, Colt, and Cortney's new old-man boyfriend Philip who Colt is inexplicably living with.

In the first panel, Lisa says the usual "Adding a new character is iften a desperate attempt to boost low ratings." In the second panel, Roy with Philips face pasted over him enters the scene saying "yo yo how's it hanging everyone?" In the third frame, Marge with Cortney's face over it says "morning Philip". In the final frame, Homer with Colt's face pasted over it says "yeah hi Philip."

I dunno, I think it's neat to play around with what these technologies can deliver to games, but it always feels weird when they get to mess with the art style and personality of the characters undirected.
Left is an image of Dana Scully from X-Files from probably Season 1, looking like a new agent. It is has a label that says "DLSS 5 Off". Right is an image of Dana Scully from...well I dunno, it's probably a promotional image but a bit later. Her hair is shorter and more styled, the lighting is more dramatic, her lips are parted slightly and suggestively. It has a label that says "DLSS 5 On."

Roguecraft DX would be the perfect pick-up-and-play Evercade game for taking with you on a Super Pocket if you could suspend runs. Even without that it's an excellent game that plays great on the go. Just sometimes I don't have an hour uninterrupted and feel back abandoning or sabotaging good runs.

They are all sitting on a wooden desk in front of a window. The same scene, except all 67(?) carts are displayed. And an EXP Limited Edition, Atari Super Pocket, Taito Super Pocket, EXP-R, VS, and Mega Man Alpha are shown. The handhelds are all powered on showing various games.

C'mon where's all your "Old Man Trump Asleep at the Wheel?" headlines?
A snippet from Time's "100 Days" interview with Trump.

Time: The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that you have to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia. You haven't done so. Aren't you disobeying the Supreme Court?

Trump: Well, that's not what my people told me - they didn't say it was, they said it was - the nine to nothing was something entirely different.Another snippet

Time: Let's talk about one case. Are you familiar with the case of the Tufts University student Reynessa Ozturk, who was arrested by a group of plain clothes officers. Well, she has since been accused by your government of having ties to Hamas. They have not revealed any evidence. Would you direct your Department of Justice to disclose the evidence that she is connected to Hamas?

Trump: I would have no trouble with it, no. I'll look into it, but I'm not aware of the particular event.

First version of my new personal site up. Neat exercise avoiding SPAs (and JS in general) in favor of server-side rendered webapp. Blogroll generated via feedbin api and activity feed via atproto. Nice to enjoy some relative minimalism for the first time in a while.
The "blogroll" page of my site. Grey left-side nav bar with assorted links. Main content pane shows all RSS feeds I follow via the feedbin API, with site URL, feed URL, and the tags I've assigned to it in feedbin. The activity feed page of my site. Been spending a few hours today retroifying and deprofessionalizing my personal site, cause there's no reason for it to be _just_ an extension of my resume. Also currently completely JS-free, which is something I haven't done in forever.
Current version of my site. Very Material Design, written in VueJS, very focused on my professional life with fancy corporate buzzwords and resume stuff front and center. The specific words are less important.Version of the site I'm currently working on. It has a distinctively retro look, with a left-hand nav and a very plaintext main content area. The resume is tucked away on another page and the text on the main page speaks both to my professional experience and my personal passions regarding technology. I intend to add some straight-up noncomputer stuff eventually.

This is just basic HTML and CSS. It could easily be a static site, but it's actually driven by a Go app cause the Blogroll page is dynamically generated by the Feedbin API. I want to add a couple more dynamic flourishes to it too and would prefer to keep JS out of it for now.

And if you don't care the read the whole thing, here's what the AI summary has to say about it 😅
The article discusses a new feature in Inoreader, an RSS reader, which offers AI-generated summaries for articles. The author switched to Inoreader recently and noticed this AI feature, which summarizes articles and allows users to ask questions. While some might find this convenient, the author expresses concern that relying on these summaries could lead to oversimplified thinking and a lack of thorough understanding of complex issues.

Inoreader had previously warned against relying too much on AI for understanding information, but they now offer these summaries, which the author feels is contradictory. They're worried that using AI tools might cause people to think they understand a topic better than they do, potentially leading to misinformation. The author provides examples where the AI presented misleading information as facts, which could contribute to the spread of false narratives.

They note that studies suggest using AI tools reduces people's critical thinking skills and their ability to evaluate information effectively. The author is skeptical about the benefits of this AI feature, fearing it might encourage "doomscrolling" (endlessly scrolling through negative news) instead of fostering thoughtful engagement with news content. In summary, while they appreciate Inoreader's functionality, the author is concerned about the implications of relying on AI summaries for understanding news.

By the way when I ask the Summarizer directly "What is Zelensky's approval rating?" It at least _tries_ to be more technically accurate and says it is "reported to be only 4 percent." But even that is not true as the source article does not report that as fact and only quotes it for effect.

Oof, @inoreader.bsky.social's new AI Summarizer repeats Russian propaganda quoted ironically for effect in an article from @theatlantic.com as "Objective Fact." Not a great look.
Part of an Inoreader AI Summary of "The Only Question Trump Asks Himself" by John Bolton in The Atlantic. There are 5 "Objective Facts" listed (the "Authori's Opinions" section is cut off) including "Russian is currently conducting military operations against Ukraine" which is a bit clinical but sure an objective fact.

The first "fact" is highlighted and reads "Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has a 4% approval rating." This is considered to be Russian disinformation at worst or just unsubstantiated bullshit spewed by Trump at best.A screenshot of the first two paragraphs of the aforementioned Atlantic story. The first paragraph contains a clearly-absurd list of incorrect information Trump is spreading about the war in Ukraine (including the "4% approval rating claim). The second paragraph makes it crystal clear that the preceding was disinformation presented for rhetorical effect and not actual fact.

It reads as follows:

Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky is “a dictator without elections,” with only a 4 percent approval rating. The war in Ukraine is “madness” and “senseless.” Although it is true that Russia is currently “pounding” Ukraine, “probably anyone in that position would be doing that right now.” Kyiv is “more difficult, frankly, to deal with” than Moscow.

This Russian propaganda could be easily dismissed, were it not being verbalized by President Donald Trump.

Saw you can ask a custom question about the article, so I asked it of my Sec230 post, "Why is Section 230 bad?" It did an okay job listing the common criticisms I mentioned, then it told me Section 230 is bad due to "Disincentives for Moderation" which is actually the very reason it was created!
Screenshot from the Inoreader answer to the question "Why is Section 230 bad?" includes the answer "Disincentives for Moderation: The law creates a scenario in which platforms may opt for minimal content moderation to avoid liability, leading to a user experience that may be filled with harmful or offensive content."

As the post _actually_ discusses, this is not a problem with Section 230 - it actually _reduces_ the risk of active content moderation in a number of ways. So the AI has gotten is backwards somehow.

nromdotcom @nromdotcom.cloud · 10/03/2025
Ran "Objective vs. Opinion" against my Section 230 post and it says I characterized Sec230 as "bad law." Quote it pulled that from was was clearly meant ironically. Guess I presented the characterization, so: technically correct. But someone reading that summary is coming away with the wrong idea.
A screenshot of an "Objective vs Opinion" AI summary of my Section 230 blog post. Highlighted point says "The characterization of Section 230 as 'bad law' is presented without substantiation, suggesting a critical view on the perceived lack of accountability it affords to companies like Facebook," suggesting that this is an opinion I hold or seriously advanced in the post.A screenshot of the only part of the referenced blog post with the string "bad law." It reads "Sounds pretty scary, right? Bad law that lets Facebook do whatever they want regardless of consequences? Well...not quite."Showing that my "characterization" of Section 230 as a "bad law" was pretty clearly a rhetorical device and not my actual opinion.

The highlighted section is titled "The promise of saved time." A bolded portion of the post (emphasis not mine) reads "...mainly relying on summarized content can condition us to prefer oversimplified narratives..." and suggests that "...frequest consumption of bit-sized information may create the illusion of knowledge, while in reality, it only scratches the surface, lacking the depth needed for a genuine understanding..."A screenshot of the inoreader blog for the URL that used to hold the "Navigating the AI Craze" blog post from the previous image.
