The absolute state of web dev... "a walkable ascii cyberpunk city in a single html file" view-source js in a separate file, ok minified and obfuscated, hmm fetches 277KB wasm, its rust json stringify + parse EVERY FRAME to talk to the rust engine when a mem view exists

Rest in peace Kavinsky. A cornerstone of synthwave and the creator of our namesake

And yet I see your music praised specifically more often than anyone else's. I think the meaning of success needs to be recalibrated

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 27/02/2026

Internet is dead, social media is malignant, the only path to sustainability is to craft your own niche, everything else is a lottery

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 02/01/2026

Strong disagree. And anyway I'm not talking about process, I'm talking about authorship. Outsourcing authorship to generative AI just makes you a publisher

140

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 02/01/2026

'AI' generated music really stifling discovery of new artists. People are going to stick more to artists they already know are authentic. It's hard not to be sus about every new name I see in our submissions

Unfortunately hard to manage the overhead, I used to mass ping artists whose songs got added on twitter, until that place imploded. Working on a whole submission platform to better manage this. As for your submission, added it last year :)

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 22/02/2025

Catching up on reviewing our synthwave submissions. Lets go

1141

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 22/02/2025

I'm not going to pre-emptively discard submissions because of the use of AI album art, however I'm obviously not a fan. Personally id prefer a blank black cover. When it comes to my own hunting outside of submissions, via bandcamp etc, it does end up being a deterrent

240

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 22/02/2025

well ackchuallly.... ;) I do serve album art through metadata to the website, its not very prominent at the moment but it can appear in the background of the milkdrop visualiser. It also shows on the youtube streams. Dealing with AI generated album art is a bit trickier and i think lower priority

The only thing I ever used it for was their APIs - Mainly so I didn't have to use it. So I guess I've now got no reason to even think about it

120

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 30/11/2024

Don't worry, its only the most useful ones

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 30/11/2024

Such a fearful and threatened move. Security of stakeholders indeed

000

Nightride FM @nr.fm · 30/11/2024

Spotify killing their related artists and audio features APIs is the sign of a company in fear of, and likely in, a slow death. Building walls to protect 'their IP' they had themselves scraped from other services
