Climate mitigation and biodiversity loss are intertwined but often treated as separate challenges. In this work led by @nperezmendez.bsky.social we argue that widely promoted water‑saving practices can lower GHG emissions yet harm freshwater biodiversity. We propose alternative management options.

Invasive apple snail (Pomacea sp.) on rice fields of the Ebro Delta. When not properly controlled, the impact on rice yields is devastating. But note also the overgrazing impact on the soil. Can't imaging all potential bottom-up cascading effects it must be triggering across the entire food web
