I wish I could just lie down on a comfy rug and go to sleep at whatever time of day I pleased. Cats have definitely got it all going for them and I’m jealous! 🐈 Day 29/365 #photoaday

My nine-year-old is really into anime and spends hours drawing characters. I’m blown away by her skills - I could never draw people like this. I’m a very proud Mummy 🥰 Day 27/366 #photoaday

Love this bit of Leeds. I lived in the building on the right a long time ago and will always cherish the view from this bridge 😀 Day 25/365 #photoaday

There’s only one place to be this evening! Really loved watching the Traitors this year - such an excellent antidote to January 😀 Day 24/365 #photoaday

Colourful carrots, brightening up a dull, rainy day. The purple ones turned the water purple! Day 23/365 #photoaday

Mr Fox, surveying his land. We see lots of foxes around our area and they’re not at all frightened of humans. This one hung around until a car came, then scampered off into the shadows. Day 22/365 #photoaday

I'm feeling this quote today. I was wondering why I'd not had any orders through my Etsy shop in all of January and berating myself for not having a good enough range. Turns out I forgot to turn off 'holiday mode' after Christmas, so no one has been able to see my shop for 22 DAYS! Argh 😣

Fabulous night at Leeds Playhouse to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I had two very tired children on the way home but it was worth it 😀 Day 21/365 #photoaday

I’ve always collected badges - I have them from when I was as young as four, I think. During the pandemic I made this hanging display so I had something to do with them all. I love looking at them - they make me very happy 😀 Day 20/365 #photoaday

I’ve been rubbish at taking photos today, so here’s a little corner of our living room. 😀 Day 19/365 #photoaday

The incredible ceiling at Leeds Grand Theatre, making all the ceilings in my house feel very sad and boring! We were there to watch an Opera North production of Kurt Weill’s Love Life, which I highly recommend - it was fabulous from start to finish 😀 Day 16/365 #photoaday

Jules Birkby - Now Then, Sunshine! @nowthensunshine.bsky.social · 15/01/2025

The amount of slime-making in our house is getting a bit out of hand. I reckon at least 50% of containers in our kitchen hold some kind of slime product or ingredient! I love it but it’s also driving me a bit bonkers 🤪 Day 15/365 #photoaday

We’re having a bit of a New Year clear-out of stuff: books, children’s toys, things we don’t use any more. Some things are harder to part with than others though, especially when you remember them from your own childhood ❤️ Day 12/365 #photoaday

Jules Birkby - Now Then, Sunshine! @nowthensunshine.bsky.social · 11/01/2025

Sounds like the snow will melt in the next couple of days. I’ll miss it - I’ve loved the ice patterns, the feeling of cold on my cheeks and the bluest of blue skies ❄️ Day 11/365 #photoaday

Final event of the festive season: The Rock n Roll Panto in Leeds at the glorious City Varieties Music Hall. We were literally on the back row in the gods, but it didn’t matter because it was so ace! 😀 2025 may now commence. Day 10/365 #photoaday

060

Jules Birkby - Now Then, Sunshine! @nowthensunshine.bsky.social · 09/01/2025

I’m absolutely loving this weather. It’s feels like a proper winter, there’s still loads of snow and there are just so many beautiful things to see. Couldn’t choose which to use for today’s photo, so here are four 😀 Day 9/365 #photoaday

070

A few weeks ago, the Royal Shakespeare Company asked if they could make my Shakespeare Christmas cards into Christmas jumpers, which if you know me then you’ll know is possibly one of the most exciting things that anyone could ever ask me! Here’s one of the cards in question…

Absolutely loving the Royal Shakespeare Company’s photos of my cards on their stage - they look ace! These are available in the RSC shop and my own online shop too 😀 nowthensunshine.com/collections/...

It’s hard showing tea towels packaged AND unfolded in a creative way… so behold this little stop-motion animation! Definitely not perfect but I had lots of fun 🤩 Two tea towel designs are sold out, but this (and others) is in stock - find ‘em here: nowthensunshine.com/collections/...

Word of the morning is ‘williwaw’ (19th century): a sudden violent squall or a toppling gust of wind. Goes well with ‘thunderplump’: a sudden downpour that soaks you to the skin in seconds.

My little stall and I are all set up in the very lovely Light Space in Meanwood - out of the wind and rain and surrounded by loads of gorgeous other stalls. Do pop down if you’re in the area - it’s a great way to support small indie businesses and do some Christmas shopping! 😀

Word of the day is a favourite, from old Scots. To ‘tartle’ is to hesitate while introducing someone because you have completely forgotten their name.

Our houseplants have been taken over by thrips. This is only about a third of the plants that went to plant-hospital (aka the bath) today to be treated - the rest are on the floor behind me 😫

The @cottageroad.bsky.social cinema round the corner from us is one of the oldest in the UK. Took the kids today to see Wicked and I’m always struck by how beautiful it is - it still has curtains that close and an ice cream intermission after the trailers! 🤩🤩🤩

Over the last year or so I've been gradually building a range of designs inspired by fun and whimsical Shakespeare quotes. It all started when I found this quote for my Shakespeare-loving friend and made it into a card.

A painting of the Shakespeare quote: 'With mirth and laughter, let old wrinkles come'

Do you ever get the feeling the world’s gone crazy? With this in mind, I play the Flintstones theme in the style of the Russian classics.
