Dozens of these skeletons were found in a Belgian coal mine in 1878, 322 metres underground, and they still stand in the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. Both mounts are now one STL kit: 25 parts, pin holes for 4 mm steel rod and a 36-page assembly manual. novastudios.be

Iguanodon bernissartensis, built twice. The modern mount stands on all fours, the way the animal is read today. The other is the famous 1882 standing pose from Brussels, upright with the tail on the ground. #Iguanodon #PaleoArt #Paleontology

Filippo also went over the finished skeleton and its measurements before I released it, and gave me advice along the way. 16 parts with the base, 16-page manual. The STL is here: novastudios.be/product/jeholosaurus-skeleton-stl/

Bambiraptor feinbergi. A small dromaeosaur from Late Cretaceous Montana, found in 1993 by a fourteen-year-old who had walked off on his own. It came up about ninety per cent complete, which for a raptor under a metre almost never happens. Skull, furcula, sternum, both hands, the whole tail.
Two renders of a life-size 3D printed Bambiraptor feinbergi skeleton on a shelf, lateral view on the left and three-quarter view on the right, mounted on a single steel rod.

My Psittacosaurus skeleton is free because I didn't make the bones. Matt Christopher scanned real fossils and put them out for anyone. I cleaned them up and cut them for printing. It's in three museums. One of them named him Taco. www.novastudios.be/why-my-psitt...

Berthasaura leopoldinae. A metre-long ceratosaur from Late Cretaceous Brazil that had no teeth at all, just a beak, in a family full of toothy predators. Described in 2021 from a single young animal, still the only one known. Full skeleton, life-size, on the shelf. #Paleontology #PaleoArt #SciArt

Described in 2014 from one partial skull about 8 cm long, from the Cloverly Formation. The body follows its closest relatives, Protoceratops and Psittacosaurus. The mount in the second photo is at the Sauriermuseum in Bellach, Switzerland. STL: novastudios.be/product/aquilops-skeleton-stl

Aquilops americanus. The oldest horned dinosaur known from North America, from Montana, about 106 million years old. Cat-sized, with a hooked beak, hence the name: eagle face. Known from a single skull, so the rest of the skeleton is built from its closest relatives. #Paleontology #PaleoArt #SciArt

The famous one is at the Sternberg Museum in Kansas: a 4 m Xiphactinus with a 1.8 m Gillicus swallowed whole, still inside it. The usual take is the meal did fatal damage on the way down, and both were buried together. Its whole family died out at the end of the Cretaceous, nothing like it today.

Xiphactinus audax. Late Cretaceous, about 85 million years ago, when Kansas was the bottom of a shallow sea. Up to 5 or 6 metres long, the biggest bony fish of its day, with a jutting lower jaw full of fangs. Skull built in Blender and 3D printed. #Paleontology #PaleoArt #SciArt

The Falcontoxodon is great, poor thing never gets any love. Was there much to go on for the head?

Lovely. Ardi always looks wrong in drawings until you look at the fossil and realise the fossil is the weird one.

Life-size Spike, a caenagnathid dinosaur. The real skeleton sold at Christie's for £3.46M into a private collection, out of reach of science. I rebuilt it in Blender; Theropodia in France made the mount. Fossils shouldn't vanish before they're studied. #Paleontology #PaleoArt #SciArt
Life-size 3D printed skeleton of Spike, a caenagnathid oviraptorosaur, mounted on a black steel stand in a running pose in front of black curtains.
