Credit to the US for making the point the conference was trying to make about US foreign interference in European democracies for them, and bringing more attention to the conference and its themes than they could have possibly hoped for. www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

EU, Canada and Lithuania pull out of disinformation conference after US pressure
The Trump administration was bothered by panels that referred to the U.S. as a disinformation threat.

If this quote from an EU spokesperson is authentic, it would be an outright scandal! Scince when is it a condition for any organizer to align the content of an event with the „official positions held by the EU“ to receive financial support? Are you kidding me?

For those who don’t know, the State Dept appears to have pressured Lithuanian, French, & other attendees of a conference in Vilnius this week. Shellenberger was suddenly concurrently in all of the attendees’ inboxes. 🤷🏻‍♀️ www.rapporteur.com/news/eeas-ru...

EEAS runs scared of US 'disinformation' debate | Rapporteur
Europe is ready to talk about foreign interference provided it does not have to identify the US as a possible source

Hugo Chavez-linked PR flack Michael Shellenberger — a random guy with a Substack who rakes in donations to fight a “censorship complex” that he created — would like you to know that journalists reporting on his attempts to smear people are propagandists.
Lithuania's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. EU Disinfolab declined to comment.
"If you believe that emailing questions to government officials and others constitutes
'pressure,' then you are a propagandist and a toady and should stop misrepresenting yourself as a journalist," Shellenberger told Rapporteur.
An EEAS spokesperson said: "The reason for the request to remove the logo of the EEAS was that organisers chose to frame some of the discussions in a way which does not align with the official positions held by the EU. "
Global Affairs Canada did not respond to questions about its decisions to withdraw support.

Invisible Source Skew
Our information flows aren’t just threatened by slop or foreign actors. They're being reshaped by invisible decisions from AI companies.

This is a thing confirmed by research, to an extent. It’s also why ensuring content shows up in retrieval and in training data is the new battleground.

Remarkable lack of dot-connecting to attacks on Trust & Safety over the last 3 years, executed by some of the same people. Then, they worked to reframe the research community as woke censors. Here they're trying to reframe it as woke cranks...and censors. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

They told the world AI was dangerous. Now Trump’s allies are coming for them.
The Trump administration and its allies are embracing some ideas championed by AI safety advocates, while also working to marginalize the movement in Washington.

Shellenberger is seemingly preparing to smear a bunch of people attending a conference on disinformation this week. Ten bucks says he’s gonna claim the researchers there are cEnSoRiNg yOu!!!1 In reality they’re presenting their ideas. Talking. Debating. You know, using their speech rights.

🚨Breaking: Michael Shellenberger is sending waves of stupid emails to researchers again 😂 Reminder: if you got one, you don’t need to respond to Mike. Screenshot the email, post, mock, go directly to the public. He’s not a journalist, he’s a crank w/a substack whose growth has flatlined. Have fun.

TSA just got my husband’s very nice knife because for some reason it was in my backpack. I have 4 flights before I get back so checking is not an option. The sympathetic officer let me photograph it before he tossed it so I could look up the model and replace it. But the AI will not help me 🙃
