Like, I think Ossoff could convincingly pivot to being just critical enough of israel that a lot of people would believe it? Will he do that, does he want to, no idea.

You might be right, and I’d certainly prefer someone more outright moral on the issue, but I do feel Ossoff at the very least seems quite competent at doing bothsidesism and has the advantage Kamala didn’t of not being directly tied to the administration people are pissed off at.

But of course this is still different from past atrocities in a meaningful way and it is fundamentally good regardless that people are shocked by it. In some sense, reducing this to “just another horrible atrocity” passively accepts the normalization of cruelty by pointing it out.

My most generous interpretation of this type of sentiment is that it does point towards a real truth that this latest atrocity does not come out of nowhere but is a natural escalation of the same trend towards normalized cruelty and state violence that started long before today (and before Trump).

“You know those big ideals we have about political democracy? Why not economic democracy as well?” Is always a sentiment I try to lead with.

Much better than what we usually expect from the media at the very least.

If anything there’s a tone of pity more than sympathy, like the article very much presents the unpleasantness of what the guy went through but he’s not really portrayed as a victim. It frames trump support as unambiguously wrong and leaves the door open to look down on him and the community for it.

I appreciate to see someone lay out my general feelings on this. Kind of bad and odd that this information wasn’t included, yeah, but I think the piece portrays its interview subject as unreliable and deeply flawed even when generally taking him at his own word. It’s not quite ‘making excuses’.

Or our school system whose incoming students might be more likely to come in with a higher degree of socialization and slightly less mental and economic stress in their home lives… or the children themselves? Are we not supposed to care about the children now.

Also as if the “urban, educated, affluent” parents sending their children to free childcare are the only people who could benefit from such a policy - what about businesses whose customers and employees could suddenly have more free time and disposable income? Or daycares and their workers.

I also rather enjoy the implication that it is not possible to guarantee free childcare and also pursue other policies that would benefit even more people

Anti-indian racism has absolutely been picking up steam over on the right-wing side of the internet over the past few years. The H1B-drama being a big example of this

Donald Trump also has consistently demonstrated this weird over-the-top philosemitism where he fully believes the stuff about Jews all being greedy miserly businesspeople, but of course Trump thinks that’s good.

I feel like this question would be pretty easily influenced by inflation elsewhere - I imagine people be likely to say it isn’t a good time to buy these goods, regardless of their actual price, if they feel some economic stress in other areas of their life.

I’m sure there is some independently-arrived at antisemitism on the left but you’d have to be profoundly ignorant/disingenuous to suspect a wider cultural trend towards antisemitism has nothing to do with the highly successful right wing political momentum that’s pushed every other kind of bigotry.

I always bring up the fact that we have someone like Elon Musk who has endorsed insanely antisemitic statements and has deliberately transformed one of the largest social media platforms into a safespace for neo-nazis. It’s ridiculous to trace rising antisemitism to “the left” by comparison.

Among other things wrong with this, hasn’t Sinema pretty much always just been a conservative democrat? Has any leftist ever supported her

Well I mean being *full* anti-israel would imply opposition to the ideological undulerpinnings of it and to genocidal ethnostates in general but you know what I mean.

I think i remember hearing a take like that from Tucker Carlson at some point before he decided to try and go the full anti-israel route?

I think it is also true that because of this gap of expectations, the average man feels *less* need to put in the effort that the average woman does to look attractive. So in a couple where both people are at median attractiveness, the woman will look closer to the cultural ideal.

He was also arguing against people who were denying rape, saying it’s ridiculous to automatically dismiss testimony of hostages right before the “it doesn’t matter” clip! I’m sure there’s some valid criticism somewhere but it’s so annoying every time I look into hasan drama it’s nonsense like this.

1. People will continue to ask why AOC was ever with this radical group. And it’ll look worse now that she acknowledges how dangerous they are. 2. The critics will move on and ask her to disavow someone or something else they see as too radical. Eventually that’ll include something you care about.

It’s insane the degree to which the Republican ideological commitment to stopping “the wrong people” from receiving “underserved handouts” is more powerful than any self-interested motivation to keep the economy afloat.

Checking his campaign website he does. I suspect the “sending our money abroad” messaging is just based on the common assumption that the average voter doesn’t care about foreign policy except to the degree it affects them personally. It bothers me a bit too, but the calculation might not be wrong.

My main experience with this discourse was left-bashing types on here constantly hammering on graham platner as proof that pro-palestine leftists are racist and antisemitic or whatever. Very possible that’s not representative of liberals more broadly, who may well have been more supportive of him.

Z A T I @notzati.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
In my (anecdotal) experience, the vast majority of active support from Platner came from people politically in between those two groups, who are broadly receptive to left-leaning populist and progressive ideas, but not really disciplined leftists either, which is most of the dem party base.

In feel like dedicated leftists who pay a lot of attention to things ranged from active hostility, cautious optimism that at least his broadly left-populist campaign platform was gaining ground, to tepid “better than the alternative” support. Dedicated, hyperonline “VBNMW” types always hated him.

I suppose my main hangup is that I don’t really understand why you would genuinely believe the omitted specifics of whatever was being texted about is an important detail missing from the story. What is the big point here about “the way the media covers these stories”?
270 0
Z A T I @notzati.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Even if you believe it’s important that this one detail was omitted from the story, (which I’m not sure I agree. It’s not really relevant to the main accusation which is highly credible in itself), that’s still making an argument that Platner is being treated unfairly, right? It’s a bad look.

Garry Kasparov is basically a huge neocon, and I believe at one point a personal friend/acquaintance to Thiel, though I was under the assumption they would have had a falling out over peter thiel’s Trump support.

I know plenty of people who are very aware of the problem, but don’t trust democrats to solve it. Societal failure makes people cynical. It is critically necessary to never stop criticizing our current government and also to point to a positive alternative vision of how things could be done.
