The language "Mandarin" has its common name contained within its formal linguistic name, "Modern Standard Chinese".
A screenshot of the heading of a Britannica article entitled "Modern Standard Chinese (Mandarin)", with the letters of "Mandarin" highlighted within "Modern Standard Chinese" in light blue.

Hints: The word means "cut with a tool"... and the word doesn't contain the letter Z at all.

Two syllables.

Correct on the first three, but "delivered" doesn't rhyme exactly. (Admittedly, the word is not as common as the other three, but it can be used in a common context; it's not an obscure word like "vizard" or "izard".)

not without text @notwithouttext.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
(By rhyme, I mean a perfect rhyme, so it has to rhyme with the whole "-izard". "Buzzard" would not count.)

Quick puzzle I thought of. The word WIZARD rhymes with: - Exactly one common 6-letter word - Exactly one common 7-letter word - Exactly one common 8-letter word - Exactly one common 9-letter word Can you figure out all four?

Aaand I just realized I misspelled "incognito". Fortunately I only transposed two letters, so "incongito" still works.

not without text @notwithouttext.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
If you excuse the leetspeak, "incongito" can be aptly anagrammed into "0 noticing".

that's what i'm theorizing; i think it would be interesting what would also be funny is if there were a parallel skitty who actually regularly interacts with mu and the others, and then was swapped with the skitty we know. then that would mean the parallel skitty is freaking out being in terra

Recalling memories is the same as recollecting them. Recalling products often involves re-collecting them.

If you match up the common letters in THREE, FIVE, ONE, TEN, and THREE again, you just about get the Roman numerals for those same numbers.

random trivial thoughts i had with no bearing on the story: the character that replaces micro is named "mu", or μ. "micro" is also a metric prefix, and it is commonly abbreviated to μ. additionally, mu is named after a greek letter, just like the first one to disappear, gamma. coincidence? maybe idk

the first isn't even ipa, it's the cyrillic i ignoring that it's roughly "zhghrrhyu" or something i ignored the diacritics. in any case i'm fairly sure it's just zalgolike gibberish

random theory: what if skitty is only still here by virtue of the comic showing skitty's perspective, and similar things are happening to the others but just in different timelines? like skitty and gamma are alive in their own timelines but d(isapp)ea(re)d in each other's idk just a random thought

If there's a music connection, and a music sequence, surely what follows is a music wall and a music missing vowels? (The vowels have been cut out of the songs and you need to sing the original lyric.)

Thanks! I had previously made a clue (standalone, not part of a puzzle) which relied on similar wordplay, with a slightly different answer: "Siamese", as you'd say, primarily denotes "conjoined" (4) and it's only when constructing this puzzle that I realized it could be made much smoother.

well, they tend to have - definitions that don't match the part of speech - looser definitions in general - fewer synonym substitutions - looser grammar and indicators - superfluous words like "the" or "an" nevertheless, i still have fun playing it! they have some gorgeous clues every so often.

building on this theme: Grundy, Solomon, Manoeuvred on Mon., Tutored on Tue., Wed on a Wed., Thirsted on Thu., Fried on a Fri., Saddened on Sat., Sunken on Sun. That was his end, Grundy, Solomon. (where the abbreviations phonetically start each verb, aiming to roughly match the original rhyme)

a "ha-ha" is another name for a sunk fence, a type of ditch. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ha-ha "ya boo sucks" is, apparently, a UK expression used to make fun of someone, which is roughly synonymous with "ha-ha". definitely a strange clue though

it's funny that "cross multiplication" and "cross product" refer to distinct mathematical concepts. (come to think of it, in a way, interbreeding would be another type of cross-multiplication.)
