Is there an etiquette for asking if the publications listed on a Google Scholar profile _actually belong to that scholar_ without suggesting that they're either lazy or that the misrepresentation is intentional? I'm surprised there isn't a "flag" button of some kind.

#earlymodern peeps! The good folks at UVic HCMC have created a static version of the Cambridge Edition of the Works of Ben Jonson Online, so this major work of scholarship remains ACCESSIBLE AND FREE. We're also working to remediate the editions themselves into the @lemdo-uvic.bsky.social ecosystem.

I guess it's a question of scale. AI can transcribe more content in less time. Your mileage will vary when it comes to accuracy, depending on the state of the facsimiles, the training of the model, etc. Human or AI, you'll want a human to proof-read.

Having your cake and the option of eating it too is always preferable! ^_^ Again, it's a neat tool and I can see this being a useful teaching platform, especially if there's scope to scale it up (e.g., other scripts, other samples).

This is great fun -- thanks for putting this together! I think it would help to disambiguate letters if they were presented in context, perhaps with the rest of the word grayed out. It's also more authentic as an exercise that way -- how often do we only transcribe a single letter in isolation?

Who called Shakespeare ‘upstart crow’? Our study points to his co-author, Thomas Nashe
Perhaps he intended to denigrate Shakespeare as a jack-of-all-trades player-turned-playwright who should have stuck to acting.
